The Civil War
The Civil War
The civil war. If you had asked me this time last year what it is, I would have no idea what is was. This year we learned about it in social studies class. I am going to tell you what caused the civil war and what it was about. There were many contributing factors in the start of the civil war. One of the main factors was tension between the North and South. Some of this tension was caused by arguments about industrialization in the North, Slavery, and Government Decisions.

The North had more railroads so the south found this an unfair disadvantage. With the north having more access to the railroads, it was easier for them to transport goods from here to there. It was a disadvantage, but the North had a greater population and would use the railroads more than the South so I find it fair for the North to have easier access to them.

The South believed in Slavery, but the North did not. When slavery came up in the North, the people wanted to get rid of it. They felt that they should have pride in the work that they produced and that they should do their work for themselves. The southerners however, thought that they could use slaves to get more work done and faster.

The Government decided to split the country in half so there would be less conflict between slave and free states. The government decided that less conflict would arise if there was an even amount of free and slave states. However, this did not occur because there were too many slaves running away to the north where they thought they would be safe but they had to be returned to their owners in the north. This ended up creating more conflict because the north didn’t want to return the slaves.

The civil war was caused due to these reasons. They could’ve been avoided if the south were given more railroads, there was no slavery or mixed slavery so those who wanted it could have it and those who didn’t want it didn’t
