Google Analysis[pic 1][pic 2][pic 3]No Woman or Minority Left Behind“Lack of Diversity”Organizational AnalysisIntroduction (Laurie)        Google Inc, is at the forefront with search engine technology  Although research shows their diversity program is lagging behind. Google has acknowledge their diversity program in hiring women and minorities (Source)…..Be sure to describe all of the different methods the company used to manage its issue. (AM)First and foremost, Google recognized they had diversity issues when it came to the lack of women and minorities within their organization.  Although, it took pressure from the outside to publish their diversity numbers, the fact that they were one of very few technology industries to do so says a lot about who they are as an organization. With that said, the issue is that they took so long to put the information out there as they were well aware of their issues.  Most organizations especially the technology industry prefer not to disclose such information as they know their numbers are incriminating which is why it is commendable that Google decided to make this move.

For Google to become transparent when it came to releasing their numbers meant that they were taking accountability for their current situation.  This leads us to believe that they will strive to take on these diversity issues in full force.  Also, Google will lead the way for other companies to address these same issues within their own organizations.  Vivek Wadhawa of Stanford University and a critic on these issues states, “The fact that one of the leading companies in Silicon Valley is now disclosing data,” he said, “will put pressure on other companies to do the same. And then there will be pressure on them to fix this problem, which is amazing.” (McGregor, 2014)In addition to releasing their numbers to the public, they also include this data on their diversity page on their website.  The page provides up to date percentages as of this year on both women and ethnicity.  The percentage listed for gender is global; however, the percentages listed for ethnicity is for the United States only.  The page also includes the following statements, “We’re not where we want to be when it comes to diversity. And it is hard to address these kinds of challenges if you’re not prepared to discuss them openly, and with the facts.  All of our efforts, including going public with these numbers, are designed to help us recruit and develop the world’s most talented and diverse people.” (Google, 2014)

When this story first started a couple weeks ago, there was a lot of buzz that everyone would see. I started seeing reports, emails and social media comments from people who wanted to know what Google did to improve. Google is using its enormous resources, and I could see this happening already. I thought you had heard this before,‬but it took a couple days after and a lot of it started to happen. When the news got out, it was overwhelming, but also a lot of people, people from around the world, came forward to tell us about the new information and how it helped our diversity. That’s how we were able to improve!
I believe there is no doubt in my mind that even if they could get us more money, we could change this. My guess is that’s not a stretch to think that we can keep going on like this. This is an event that brings attention to and pushes our culture together, so I really hope that Google will keep going and help us keep expanding to a world where every person in the world is diverse, and that we can always have something amazing to show from wherever we move, and I hope we can get to meet each other again to work on this new data, which I think will be something we see in a lot of these future reports coming out the Google Corporation. I would like to thank everyone for their patience with this, and we will continue to update this story if this information gets out. (McGregor, 2014)
