In the Shadow of Plenty
By George Grant
In the Shadow of Plenty by George Grant, George tells us about the war on poverty and how we as Christians need to do something about it. From scriptures he tells us what we can do. He makes these scriptures easier to understand as well.

Poverty has been here since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, when God pronounced judgement on them. “And He said to the man, “you listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you” Genesis 3:17. God also gave them good news and charity though. “And the Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife and he clothed them” Genesis 3:20. Evangelism is not complete without charity. God gave us charity when we refused to be responsible for our sins before God. The charity He gives us is the soothing of our pain and our suffering, and giving grace to those whom believe in Him and His only Son. “For sin pays its wage-death; but Gods free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23. It is our job to evangelize and tell of this good news of charity God has shown us, just like the apostles and Jesus did before He was crucified. “Go then to all peoples everywhere and make them My disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19. We must not only tell of Gods charity though, but spread it as well. We can do this by showing others love and following the Good Samaritans example of charity. “He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn where he took care of him” Luke 10:34. The Good Samaritan was a reminder of Gods caring heart, as we should also be.

To show charity, you have to work hard. Apostle Paul taught that work is the foundation of charity. “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their own living” 2Thessalonians 3:12. Charity starts at the home. A faithful person shows charity to his or her family. We should also show charity to the church as well, because if we help the church the church will help others. “Therefore as we have opportunity let us do good to all especially to
