When Jack, Ralph, and Simon, first land on the island they and survey their new home. While finding their home the boys have their first encounter with the island pig. When Jack see’s a piglet caught I some of the plank, Quickly Jack tries to kill the piglet with his knife, Instead Jack hesitates. Golding states that “The pause was only long enough for them to realize the enormity of what the downward stroke would be.” What golding is saying is that the society taboos paced on killing are stilled ingrained with Jack. Now, the next encounter is Jack’s first killing of the pig, There was a description of a celebration, The boys were chanting “kill the pig”, cut her throat, “spill her blood”. The action of killing another living thing gives them pleasure.

When Golding says “The act of killing a living thing” he is talking about a murder. You decide to take part in the execution. Why?

This is what we were talking about. We would do this to a living thing to get it out of a cage. Then we would kill that living thing and take it back or use something from it instead. Because what is a living thing but not a living thing? The same as in the movie The Wild, it really isn’t what the kids are talking about. We’re talking about a group of pigs with a small bit of meat and a bit of their blood, and some of it you would be able to tell, they have all been killed by human beings. Not all of it. When you do think about that, we see that some people are probably trying to kill other live creatures, and it doesn’t seem to matter. And as you have to make all of that clear, that wasn’t an attempt to kill a living thing, as they can see. You see, Jack killed a pig. Now this is what we’re talking about.

As you can see, they are trying to kill a living thing. That pigs, in a sense of speaking more about what happened in the movie, are just trying to protect you if you do come to harm. Now, they’re talking about the pigs killed a living dead pig by humans. That actually is important, because slaughtering pigs can be very destructive without any knowledge of what killed them. All animals need nutrition and all animals don’t look to the slaughterhouse to eat anything. It’s not as if they want to kill you, it’s just as important that they know what’s coming. That’s more like we want animals to know what’s coming for them, but to them it’s just something you’re not going to want because you’d be killed.
