UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMYCASE STUDY:GOAL SETTING- SSG MARTINPL300: MILITARY LEADERSHIPSECTION H11MAJ WILLIAM WHITEBYCADET KESHA BROWN ‘08 CO H4WEST POINT, NEW YORK23 FEBRUARY 2007______MY DOCUMENTATION ATTRIBUTES ALL SOURCES USED AND ASSISTANCE RECEIVED IN COMPLETING THIS ASSIGNMENT._____NO SOURCES WERE USED OR ASSISTANCE RECEIVED IN COMPLETING THIS ASSIGNMENT.SIGNATURE:IDENTIFY        SSG Martin was unable to meet the Army Weight Requirement. This delayed his promotion. SSG Martin has seen others get promoted that he feels are on the same level as him.  He does not believe that the Army Wight Standard is fair and because of this his attitude towards his work has gotten worse. He shows up for work late and leaves early. He does not put as much into his job as he used to. EXPLAIN        The individual goal for SSG Martin is to get him to meet the Army Weight Requirement.  The goal that SSG Martin is specific however he is not being challenged, I do not think that he is receiving feedback that is beneficial to his success, and I do not think that he was an active member in deciding how he should reach that goal. SELECT        SSG Martin needs to be challenged by the process of achieving this goal. Making success a challenge will keep him from getting board and he will perform at a higher level. He also needs a specific goal to work towards. Just meeting the standard may not be specific enough. He may need a specific weight or specific tape measurements that he should attain to meet the weight requirements.  He should also receive positive and negative feedback from those helping him achieve the goal. And lastly he should play an active role in creating a plan of action for achieving his goal.
