In recent years, more and more GMO food can be found in peoples daily meals or snacks. Literally, GMO means genetically modified organisms, an innovation in the area of food science where some original genetics in certain crops have been modified using genetic engineering techniques. The main purposes for doing that are: firstly, to increase the yield of the products. Secondly, to update the crops quality to let them fit for the hard growing condition or environment. Thirdly, to save our valuable natural resources such as the consumption of the water while growing the rice. Last but not least, with some genetic modification, we can protect our environment by using less chemical fertilizers. Rice, wheat, soybean, corn, etc. are most commonly mentioned as GMO food. The issue of whether GMOs are beneficial or harmful to society has been debated dramatically ever since its technology was developed. In the following paragraphs, I am going to introduce the advantages and drawbacks of GMOs as well as my opinion about it. I think that for those countries which can produce sufficient none-GMOfood or industrial crops, it is unnecessary for them to produce massive GMO food, while for the rest of countries with bad weather conditions or less cultivated land, GMO food is really helpful.

It cannot be denied that thanks to GMO, many people no longer need to suffer from the starvation, especially in those countries which previously produce less sufficient food. In China, according to the documentary “Food is Heaven”. With its large territory and different weather conditions, there are still many people in some places have to bear hungry. The innovation of GMO food can really help deal with this issue, because one of its advantages is it can be massively produced with limited resources and the crops yield will be higher than none-GMO food. Furthermore, the massive production leads to a more reasonable and affordable food price for the poor. Thus, the rate of starvation can be diminished as long as the popularizing of GMO food can be carried out. Besides, with GMO food, there will be much more opportunities for people to choose wide ranges of vegetables at all seasons. In other words, different kinds of vegetables are available in four seasons and wont be limited by the season.

However, since the technology of GMO food has not matured yet in every aspects, the backwards of it still can be found frequently. First of all, because it alters the genetic of food, it may affect the overall bio balance
