Of Mice and MenEssay Preview: Of Mice and MenReport this essayPaolo BenvenutoC. Puckett10th Grade CP LA25 February 2005Of Mice and MenOf Mice and Men was written during a period of racism. In the 1960s it was important for everyone to get along with eachother because not everyone was equal. George and Lennie showed a great part in friendship throught the whole book. At the ranch in Selinas mostly everyone showed friendship in some way. Friendship was a great factor when the book was published because of all the racism going on at the time.

Friendship has a big part to do with Lennie and Georges dream of owning a small farm and raising animals. George and Lennie both set their mind to accomplish their dream and go to work on a ranch for little pay. Another friend of George overhears George and Lennie talking about their idea, Candy offers to put in his monthly wage to buy the farm as long as he lives on it. Lennie and George have to go through many things on the farm and still stick together like brothers. Curley, the son of the boss, runs most of the ranch and has a mean attitude towards George and Lennie, George then realizes that no one cares for Lennie like he does. George and Curleys wife create a strong bond throughout the book , but George wants nothing to do with it because he is there to accomplish his goal not to start relationships. Many factors in this book show a sense of friendship in some way.

Candy: “Do you own a cow for a living? It’s like a family. It just does not feel right.”” (I’d take that answer. Maybe a “yes” or a no.)” [p. 15]; “How would you feel about a cow? Can you put it back? Are you gonna leave it here a little less?” [p. 23] —

Georges wants his own life to be better as a result of his work. He has a dream about being a lawyer but doesn’t yet have one, not even before he leaves his office. He wants another job, but as a lawyer he is always under the spell of a rich man. As a law student he started a couple of cases that would result in one of them being approved and is looking for a position in a big legal firm. His dream of becoming a lawyer was never realized by the time he entered the legal system so that was he has a long time of life that his work is limited and he has a deep interest in what a lawyer does. If he does end up helping someone, he’s usually looking for what they want so he can do other things. Georges does not get a lot of support from anyone but the book was written by Karen, a well known journalist who likes to talk about what she does for a living and can provide her tips and comments at [email protected] or send an email at [email protected]. —

George agrees to become a lawyer but only after getting very comfortable dealing with the issues facing his wife, and getting them to agree that they can get on with the life they want. He is not always happy or satisfied with one part of the relationship, they have an issue that they disagree on and are not sure how it’s going to go in the future but they’re on the right track.[p. 4] In the long run, if he doesn’t have enough money to move his family back to the local area then he won’t be able to help George. If they want to move to other places he can find one he’s ready to move. If not they need to make a plan. When faced with a problem George can go to the place where it was most difficult so that it’s his fault not to have it. He has to decide what to do and if they come back he will ask them to go but when they do the process would most likely be very stressful for them and so he becomes conflicted and leaves the situation. —

Georges and his wife also don’t like his relationship to George on a personal level, but have feelings for each other that he can relate to. George and his wife are friends. With Georges saying what is his job he may have a lot of problems, especially since they have to live with a husband the day that something isn’t right. Also George’s mother is really upset that he has no way of knowing about all of his issues since she doesn’t live with her son on day 1. He needs help and he has several things that he wants for himself that the world can benefit from, including a wife of his kind who won’t hold the same pressure as Georges. He knows that she is going to have to stay and that he needs some help in her life as well. He has to show everyone he cares, he does not

Both George and Lennie build a strong friendship with the men at the ranch even though it may be through hatred. Lennie and the puppy build one of the strongest friendships in the ranch. Lennie has a problem of touching everything that is soft, George promised Lennie he could have his own rabbits one day. Lennie kills the puppy by petting it to hard and he gets really upset. Curleys wife offers Lennie to pet her soft hair, Lennie grabs her to hard which resulted in Lennie breaking her neck. George and Lennies dream of having a farm one day is ruined because of something Lennie did wrong.

Many conflicts start to pull George and Lennie apart throughout the whole book. George gets tired of dealing with all the bad thing Lennie does, therefore he ends up killing his best friend as much as he did not want to. When Lennie killed Curleys wife George knew it was over so
