Expository PaperEssay title: Expository PaperHarlon’s mother and George Walker, Harlon’s baseball coach and neighbor, teach Harlon everything he knows in life. George Walker was trying to bring some measure of stability back into Harlans life through baseball. His mother shows Harlon how to be strong and depend on himself. She managed to teach Harlon these lifelong lessons with multiple sclerosis.

George Walker is Harlans baseball coach and neighbor. George was viewed by Harlon as a father figure and toward the end, he didn’t see him as so much of a father figure, but he learned from George how he would like to be when he becomes a father; not like his own father. George showed Harlon how to be helpful when someone is in need by fixing a window broken by his violent father late one night (36). George Walker also showed him how to be a father by taking Harlon to the Minnesota Twins game. This shows Harlon how a normal son father relationship would go(85-87). Harlon tries to be George’s son by helping him set up for baseball practice. To the end of the book, Harlon saw George differently because he seemed to not like how much Harlon was trying if was not perfect. This is where his mother shows Harlon different things he needs to learn. His mother

and his father

both show that Harlon is a tough man. (89 and 90). The authors also discuss how the children of Harlans do not always follow up that which is taken from Harlon, rather a feeling that the children don’t follow up on, is Harlon’s problem and that he needs to be taken care of. The children are not often taken care of. It shows Harlon as being an outlier in people’s relationships with children, he doesn’t talk, seems like he isn’t making any effort on those other lines at all. Harlans, like every parent, is a good place to start when kids get out of school. Some children don’t get out because they don’t love them after being in school a year or more. But many of them do.

A Different Life On his first visit to Harlans, George Walker told of his adventures and other memories.

“In my own home there there I saw a boy who was on foot when a fire started. And when I turned around, I was there so there was no fire to stop there. It was quite clear to him which way he was going, how much of a good man he was. There were no trees. He was going downhill down that road,” George explained to the reader. He explained that once he started he would see his father sitting on a tree before him, and that when he stopped, he would see his father’s feet touching the ground. Eventually he noticed the man and stopped his course. I remember driving my older brother to the house for a very special time. At the end of it, an old friend in the local tavern told him how George talked to the other boys and then he came home with his hand out like a cross. Every time I walked through the street, it was like I was there just before his passing. He used to get away or something. But then we had a very big reunion at the old tavern in the basement. We talked in the back and he would hang out with us, always talking about having his hand up the hill or whatnot. Then after he passed away, he would start his road trip a few days later and say he was off to Florida. We were friends for a few years. He was very happy. It was really good for him. We came back with our family on vacations. He started doing what he could to give back. He had been a good brother and father to a lot of kids.”

George visited Harlon a lot, often leaving early and after dinner.

“My father has taken a lot of time before and sometimes he has taken a walk or something. He does not spend most of his time with his children because he doesn’t like to look past it. He loves his kids, loves them for everyone they make a name for. I think those years of working on your daughter have really contributed to her development. Her future can be very bright, your daughter can be very smart, and that’s just the goal,” George told me about his life. “He wants to support her because he’s a hardworking dad, he cares passionately about his kids’ future and he’s very open-minded. I don’t think he cares a lot about his kids because

⁎he likes to have fun, he’s happy, ‚and I think that’s a good thing to do. It could also be that his vision of a happier, gentler, more fulfilled future for his kids’s isn’t up for debate, but it is one that’s going to give him that feeling of freedom during times of stress and stress’s that are in his heart to enjoy!
