The topic and question is if a persons BPM is effected by the change in genre of music. This will be done by playing a minute of a genre, recording data, then repeating this process. This is important to society because it could help to determine what music is appropriate for certain situations, and see if the genre of music effects your mood. Completely different types of genres is the only way to get the most accurate results, because the more different the genre, the greater the difference in BPM would occur. Also, when recording a persons BPM, to get very accurate results, put 2 fingers on the lower part of wrist, record for 30 seconds, and multiply by 2. Different music genres have the possibility to change peoples current emotion, so since this can happen, Different genres could effect a persons BPM.

The independent variable in this experiment, is the genre of music that is being played through the minute intervals throughout the experiment. The 7 different genres that will be played, consist of electronica, metal, dub-step, classical, rap, reggae, and post rock. These music genres consist of many different BPMs throughout their genres, which would most likely result in a difference in a persons BPM after listening to them. Also, throughout these different music genres, there will be a 1 minute period in between each of the different genre tests, to restabalize the BPM and to have time to record the test subjects BPM.

The dependent variable in this experiment is the BPM of the person being tested because it is dependent on the independent variable, the genre of music. The BPM is the rate of your heart, and the acronym stands for Beats Per Minute. This is recorded by placing fingers on the lower part of a wrist, recording the amount of times it beats within 30 seconds, then multiply it by 2. The dependent variable can either become more or less accurate depending on the amount of time you record, and the amount you multiply it by. Such as, if you record the BPM for 15 seconds, then you would multiply by 4, or if you record the BPM for a minute, then you would multiply it by 1.

The independent variable will effect the dependent variable, by creating a different feeling throughout each genre as you listen to it. If you were to listen to music, such as classical, or post rock, then the BPM of the test subject would go down due to the calmness of the music, and the feeling given off by it. Next, if you were to listen to high BPM (of song) music, such as Dub-Step or metal, The BPM of the test subject would increase due to the high intensity. The genre of music (independent variable) directly changes the BPM (dependent variable) because the BPM would change due to the type of music.

The problem throughout this experiment is if that the genre of music played effects a persons BPM of their heart. My hypothesis for this experiment is that the test subjects BPM will be effected
