Being a part of “Generation Y” most of the general descriptions given by the book are correct. As a whole, my peers are positive, sheltered, and pressured but one of the generalizations is incorrect. By living up to the labels put on “Generation Y”, the world is headed in a more positive direction.

As stated above, my peers are positive, sheltered, and pressured. The people I surround myself with are optimistic. Even in bad situations they can see the good in it. This appears to be a difficult task for previous generations to accomplish, but that cycle is breaking. Also the parents of “Generation Y” are doing well at shelter their children. Personally, my parents have done their best to shelter me from the things they had to deal with growing up and they were mostly successful. They sheltered me from the hardships in life and my friends parents have done the same.

The only generalization wrong is the one that states we are conventional. Most try to break the mold and march to the beat of their own drum. I do some things in traditional matters when I have to, but any other time Im being myself.

To me, the purpose of generalizing and labeling a generation is to put expectations over their head. Its used as a kind of motivational tool. If a label is negative, most will try to prove society wrong and succeed. But for the ones positively labeled, they are pressured to live up that.
