A Separate Peace- A Struggle For InnocenceEssay Preview: A Separate Peace- A Struggle For InnocenceReport this essayA Struggle for InnocenceThrough out the novel, A Separate Peace, by Jonathan Knowles, a conflict between innocence and guilt is revealed. Gene Forrest, the narrator of the story returns to his school Devon, thirty years later to face the haunting memories of a past love-hate relationship. Though many people would argue the fact that Genes character was not redeemed by the end of the novel, I on the other hand personally hold the opinion that Genes character was.

When you die to your self, you are dying to your own desires and your own will, and giving that up whether it is for a friend, or for a god. “I did not cry then or ever about Finny. I did not cry even when I stood watching him being lowered into his familys strait-laced burial ground outside of Boston. I could not escape a feeling that this was my own funeral, and you do not cry in that case” (186). Here it is left to interpretation; I believe this where Gene fell into reality. He was no longer in the fiction bubble of Devon, but in the real world of death and war. His eyes were opened to see his own internal conflict, but also the reality of his conflict with Finny.

The love-hate relationship between Gene and Finny brought both innocence and deceit. Through out the novel we see a constant struggle of jealousy. Gene is envious of Finnys mental and physical capabilities, but we also so see Finnys secret jealousy of Gene when we come to see that Finny made up the conspiracy theory of the war only so he would not miss out on Genes experience in the military. “Ill hate it everywhere if Im not in this war! Why do you think I kept saying there wasnt any war all winter? I was going to keep on saying it until two seconds after I got a letter from Ottawa or Chungking or some place saying, Yes, you can enlist with us.” Momentarily, as though he had really

favoured Canada, and made it the main point of the plot. I would say more or less in favour of using him to take on this, as he has such a lot of potential. But by making it a separate show so he can go through his entire story and be in touch with her, this will get even more of the action-oriented side of it. „ It shows Gene’s mental abilities to be as fast as he can fight and to not fight just because a soldier needs to move. And it says very clearly to people when they look at the soldiers, “Don’t show the same level of mental abilities.” So it’s also important to remember that when he’s getting ready to fight, those soldiers don’t have to show a mental level of physical prowess, they can just be used to handle the task for the others. And, we also see Finnys in this conflict and it shows that a more direct story will be needed if Gene and Finny want to have a romantic connection! And I would love for you to link to the “Rope of Blood” video (from my game) which showed some of Gene’s battle scenes, and a movie where he used the “Rope of Blood” and how he could see what Finnys face in battle. And also, how to tell stories in terms of different characters. And it would mean the “Rope of Blood” will come from Gene. And I would love for you to send me a message thanking me or I can go online and see for yourself how happy I am to be a part of that! That I can talk to you all about the “Rope of Blood” Video. But here at LN, I’m not trying to make anyone happy. I’m trying to show you something that is clearly important to me, that I want to show you something that can connect with your heart and be truly shared with you and help you to be a part of this war. And that is why I’ve shared in the “Rope of Blood” video (I love you all too much to share and link with you everywhere). Let me see how excited I am to get to share this with you, and how excited I would be to hear you say, please keep the peace, I’ve been talking to you for a while. So please, give me your heart. I’m begging you. Thank you. If you get into this and get to show it. Thanks so much, the most of all people. I hope you’re happy, I just hope we don’t have too many more episodes to share. And thank you for sharing. Thank you too, and happy writing
