Gay Marriages
Gay Marriages
Marriage can be defined as the social institution where two people make the decision to live together, gay marriages fit this definition. As people grow and mature our social understanding broadens, we learn we are all not the same and it would be immoral to deny someone or some group because they are different. Marriage is very important to people that love each other and plan to spend the rest of their lives together. Imagine meeting someone you loved more than anyone else in the world and could see yourself spending the rest of your life with but couldn’t marry them because it wasn’t socially accepted. I believe that gay marriages should be allowed. It should be granted since it would allow for the equal distribution of government benefits, all people are the same and it would lessen the spread of sexually transmitted diseases among the gay population.

When people are married they enjoy some government benefits, there is both economic and legal benefits that are given to married couples. If same-sex marriages are not allowed these couples would be cheated out of obtaining these benefits that straight people who get married are allowed to have. Everyone pays taxes, including gay people, they are charged equal taxes just like any other person in the country. If someone pays for a product, it is normal for them to receive their benefit, the product or service they paid for. This is the same as a person paying taxes to support a government and in turn they should get their product, that is, they should receive the benefits that every other person receives. By not allowing same-sex marriages we are unfairly giving preference to straight people for no reason since we are all equally taxed. Ignoring the economic and legal benefits of allowing same-sex marriages, a more important issue, is the social implications of such an unfair deal.

Let’s talk about what same sex relationships really are. People stereotypically look at gay people as promiscuous and unable to keep a healthy long lasting relationship, or relationships that do actually last, are looked at as probably shallow and uncommitted. Now gays do have relationships like that, but so do straight people. Gay or straight we are all going to have the same relationship problems and successes since we are all the same. How do you think gay people feel when they find out they aren’t allowed to get married just because they fell in love with someone that is the same sex as them. That doesn’t make it wrong it just makes it different. There are many worse cases that the government should be more concerned with, for example how people accept war, we can kill millions of innocent families yet when two people of the same sex who love each other and want to start their own family want to get married its not accepted and it doesn’t affect anyone but the two people who decide to get married.

In conclusion, gay marriages should be allowed. Not only because we are all equal no matter what sexuality we prefer
