Napoleon Bonaparte was a man of greatness. His determination and his willingness to make France a better country is what made him the person he is known today. Napoleon loves being in power. He likes the influence of being in charge over everything.

Napoleon visits Haiti and already sees it as an opportunity to help France improve. Slavery was not absent in Haiti. The island was inhabited by the black slaves, and ideas of the Revolution rose up in and effort to gain their freedom. The leader was Toussaint Louverture. Napoleon saw visions of Haiti as a base to extend his empire into Americas. He saw it as regaining Louisiana and conquering more territories so he writes a letter to Toussaint with a sense of equality. In the letter Napoleon tells Toussaint that “if liberty is their greatest desire, they can only enjoy it as French citizens, and that every act contrary to the interests of the country…” It seems like Napoleon is not even giving Toussaint a choice, either you are a French citizen or you are not a French citizen. Toussaint doesn’t abide by Napoleon’s threats and he ignores him. France invades Haiti. Napoleon sets his eyes on something and he goes for it regarding any sacrifices he has to go through.

Napoleon is also known as the Consul. He had absolute rule. As the consul, he established a new form of government, peace and order in France. Bonaparte won several battles for Europe. He helped the society of France. He was known for trade and he helped France’s expansion of the Middle East. He used the Mediterranean Sea ports for trade. Bonaparte was very liked in Europe. While in rule, the Code Napoleon was established as law.
