More Efficient CarsEssay Preview: More Efficient CarsReport this essayCars 2More Efficient CarsThere are a lot of questions surrounding the efficiency of automobiles today. Since the industrial revolution we have been able to move faster and further thanks to fossil fuel. We went from horses to carriages and then to cars. At first the benefits of this change greatly outweighed any downfalls that may have been noticed. As time moved on however, those kinks were noticed and it is a very big deal today.

Although the creation of cars and others vehicles was a huge convenience, people have failed to see the detrimental effects they cause. Many argue that the use of oil and its contribution to global warming is a huge issue, and that automobiles should be more fuel-efficient; this is something that the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) works to do. On the other hand, there are those who believe that the works of the CAFE should be taken away for their efforts have not been effective. Besides the CAFE, other stakeholders in this issue include the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), United States Congress, automobile manufacturers, and automobile consumers. Sub-issues dealing with whether cars should be fuel-efficient include the amounts of oil used, safety issues, and issues relating to employment and the economy. As cars have become a way of life, they have also become damaging to the atmosphere. With that we have growing emissions pollution problems and high oil and gas prices.

In May, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized a three-year plan for the cleanup of a coal-fired power plant on the Chesapeake Bay in Chesapeake, MD. It’s a huge project that has only created major new pollution problems because it’s only at the top of the list of environmental problems plaguing our coastal environment.

In a 2013 speech at the Environmental Justice Network, Obama said that “people want to be able to fly their own aircraft and the environment can be changed to their benefit, I believe. And as I have said many times, there is no reason that this kind of policy couldn’t be done to save your world more quickly, and this is an effort that I believe will come to fruition with great success. It will not only lead to a greater sense of control, it will also lead to a far healthier environment that will have health and safety benefits, such as an increased number of jobs, cleaner streets, increased energy efficiency and even better climate protection.

Cars with air conditioning emit a much higher percentage of hazardous pollutants than cars without air conditioning. For example, when the EPA reported air conditioning in 2005, cars with air conditioners emitted 40% more ozone than one without air conditioning.
