The Beast of Jealousy
In the tragic play Othello by William Shakespeare, he is strongly influenced by the theme of, the beauty and the beast within. How does Shakespeare use his characters to explain how jealousy brings out the beast in oneself? He first uses Iago to show the beast can be triggered by envy or betrayal. Then, he uses Othello to demonstrate that someone with beauty can also have a beast. Lastly, he uses Desdemona to demonstrate that there is a beauty in the sea of beasts. In the play, Iago had planned a scheme to destroy Othello by using the one person he loved the most. He planned to use jealousy to bring the beast out of Othello which would cause his downfall.

Iago became a beast when Othello had chosen someone with less experience than Iago. Iago became furious and felt betrayed by someone who he respected, but he wanted Othello to feel the same betrayal that he felt. Anyone can become a beast even if they’re around people they respect. Iago did not know why Othello had chosen Cassio over him, but he let his thoughts take over his inner beast.

Othello seemed like he had no inner beast when in reality he did. Iago started off by giving Othello some hints about suspicious things going on between his wife and Cassio. He started using items and people as evidence to prove his case. The evidence convinced Othello that Desdemona was being
