Piggy was probably one of the smartest kids Ive ever come to know. Its crazy, piggy was one of my best friends on the island and I didnt even know his first name. To be quite honest none of us did. It really does bother me to think that I wasnt able to realize piggys intellect and intelligence until it was almost too late. When I first met piggy I laughed at him and teased him as all the other boys did. If I could go back to the first time I met him, Ill be honest, I would have still laughed, but I might have made more of an effort to learn his real name. Unfortunately, I will probably never know his name and I will never be able to call him by it. All the time on the island I really took Piggy for granted. His thoughts, his opinions. I remember that day clearly, way before any of us lost control. Our hair had not yet started growing. We were naive. Innocent. Piggy was one of the first boys I had met on the island. He talked to me about how he had met Ralph and when they had found the conch. He explained how it was to symbolize our new little society. He had to teach Ralph to use it. Piggy had asthma, terrible asthma. He had to use these big old specs. He was just different. I would assume hes just been different his whole life. Piggy just wanted to fit in, dont we all? I remember our fist meeting. Everything was hectic and so unorganized and Piggy was there trying to compile a list of everyones names. No one else thought of that. He was the only one smart enough. He never got far on his census though. No one ever gave him a chance, and I had no position to say anything. Another time we wanted to set a signal fire and took his glasses. While we were too focused on the fire, Piggy noticed that one of the littleuns was missing. He was the only one that cared, he cared for everyone, even if we didnt deserve it. Piggy would try to vice his concern and would be quickly shut down by Jack and Ralph, all of us. Now,
