Civil Rights Movement
Nikollette LaneUS History 2 2606Dr. WilsonDecember 5, 2016Civil Rights MovementThe first article that I read was: “No school in our state will be integrated” (1962).      In this article they start talking about how Mississippi’s governor Ross Barnett defied the Supreme Courts order to admit James Meredith to the University of Mississippi.  Barnett thought that the Federal Government was taking over in what he believed was only a state matter. It did not take long for the situation to escalate to a level so high that they considered it a crisis. There were riots and violence at the Ole Miss Campus. In this article the Governor of Mississippi, Ross Barnett was speaking to the public about this crisis. They also begin to talk about the words expediency and principle. They are talking about how these words affect the world and what their meanings are. They talk about principle being a little word and that it is easily over looked. Then they say that expediency is past. When they say this they are saying that they are telling us that they now either have to go with what the federal government wants or they have to stand up and be men and tell them NO. What this article is really about is the Governor of Mississippi said that every county in Mississippi their schools will not be integrated as long as he is serving as governor. (

The second article I read was: “Remember the Real Fight, 1975”     This article is a letter to students. In this letter they talk to the students about the “real fight”.They are telling the students that they are fighting for the right to be able to go to school anywhere in the city to get a good education. They tell the students that there will be more police, fbi agents, more state and local uniformed police and more investigators from the satae attorney. (
