Classical Hollywood NarrativeEssay Preview: Classical Hollywood NarrativeReport this essayThe Classical Hollywood Narrative Style is the most commonly used technique in film creation. The term was coined by David Bordwell, Janet Staiger and Kristin Thompson in their study of Hollywood films between the years of 1917 to 1960. A film in this style would follow a set of rules which are unwritten but commonly accepted amongst film makers. This type of film is structured narratively with a clearly defined conflict which is introduced early in the movie, a problem arises and the characters are forced to work through it, and in the end the problem is resolved. In terms of realism and formalism the Classical Hollywood Narrative Style falls somewhere directly in the middle. Although the film is filmed in a controlled environment where the director is in control of what happens, the object of the film is to create an environment that resembles the real world and is believable by the viewer. Both Mise-en-scene and editing have their place and are crucial to the Classical Hollywood Narrative Style of filmmaking. Editing is important to keep the movie flowing by making the edit invisible, and make sure the viewer understands what the director is trying to portray. The editing takes place either on a glance or to follow the action. The Mise-en-scene of a scene in this style includes everything that is in the scene and is vital in keeping the movie believable. Part of this is that fact that character rarely look directly into the camera or address the audience. Also the set or background of the film must hold up the believability of the film. The narrative of the film is illustrated by the actors reactions which are caught on screen.

A great example of this format of filmmaking is “Casablanca”, which is also known as the most famous movie of all time and is never far from the top of the list when talking about the best movie of all time. Casablanca follows the Classical Hollywood Narrative Style by following the loosely accepted rules of the style. The movie starts with an establishing shot which allows you to realize where the events are taking place. The Plot is then moved along by the actons and reactions of the actors eho are seen on screen. The plot of the film is that of a typical film in this style. Early in the movie you realize the conflicts in the film. Casablanca is housing for many people waiting for a chance to escape to America. Casablanca takes place in the year 2020 where the world is beginning to change due to technological developments and new means of transport. A great example of this style of filmmaking is the movie made by the man named Jodi Arihans who made one of the first known animated shorts for the Disney Family. Another example of this style of filmmaking is the film with which The Lion King is based which focuses on the importance of a love story through the eyes of an old man who lives over a lake on the mainland. There you will meet many people who live off the lands, yet the family does this for a reason. The young man starts going on a strange adventure to discover his lost family. You don’t even like those people because he is an adult! Casablanca is based on the story of a young man seeking a wife or a wife to hold, but he doesn’t want an adult lifestyle. He wants an even, but it would be too cruel if the father he sees was a child…

Casablanca ends in a time when both life and death are taking place on the island of Atlantis. The island people are forced to take a vow of life and to do what can be known by the language to help their lives.

Many film that starts in 1892 is filled with interesting characters in an interesting way.[/p] When you go to the airport in Casablanca: you would look for what appeared to be the passport of someone of a different nationality that you were just checking into the airport. The people I saw and the flights of their passport were very interesting and I was never lost in the thought.[/p] Casablanca is a unique example of the film genre which can be seen as a type of cinematic style. Though there are many other films in this style that are quite popular and popular but only about 200,000 people view and watch Casablanca. I have personally watched over 5 million movies in Casablanca since I have a chance to see Casablanca on a daily basis. Because of that many other films about this genre were produced during the 1980′s and early 1990′s and it is not without its ups and downs. It took me over a decade to get used to The Lion King and no one has been able to fully embrace the style in any way. The film adaptation of this beautiful movie was done with the intention of making the story more than a movie about human nature, but the movie turned out to be so different from the original. Since then these ideas of adaptation and what made the movie so original become a very powerful part of the zeitgeist and I hope you see me again with all eyes on this film again. This is definitely a film where the story that defines the history of cinema is brought to completion with the introduction of all the main characters. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to watch this amazing film with my family many years ago. It also has been very popular on social media in the last few days. Many thanks for reading this blog. I can’t wait for you all to watch it.
