Her name was Chelsea. I met her my freshman year of high school. We had
science together, but soon found out that neither of us were very good at it. Sitting in the
upper left corner of the room, I kept to myself. Ive never been much of a talker, so I hadnt met anybody in the class yet. She was seated toward the middle, on the right side. Loneliness filled both of us like snow filled the rocky mountains, and that loneliness was probably what brought us together.

Before I get to that though, let me reflect back to that first day. I had recently discovered the band, Dirty Heads. My favorite song by them, coincidentally, was called, “Chelsea”. As our teacher took attendance, her name caught my attention. That song unpreventably started bumping in my head.

Around the second or third week of school, our science assignment for the day was a group lab project. Of course, we loners ended up in a group together. After the first five awkward minutes, I decided to break the ice. I introduced myself and told the group some interesting (well, what I considered interesting), facts about me, such as my love for baseball and my love for music. I saw her eyes light up when I mentioned liking Shwayze. Her favorite song by them, “Perfect for Me” was also my favorite! Which made me wonder, maybe she was perfect for me.

Once everybody made it past introductions, the project was a lot easier and everyone was a lot more comfortable with each other. There were five of us. I would not consider Justin a loner, more of a deep artist that no one really understands. Mario was a heavier-set guy and one of the funniest people Ive ever met. Then there was Lucas. He really was a loner, a stoner loner. All five of us became best friends, but me and her especially. We would spend hours every day at her house just listening to music. It was a bond between us. That bond eventually grew and grew until we were inseparable. We started dating. We were in love. It was the happiest Id ever been.

About a year after that, a new band neither of us had heard of started getting big. Their name was MGMT and they rocked. One song that reminded me of her more than any other was “Electric
