Folktale: The Mosquito Experiment
In the land of Mosschimo, there lived many species of earthly life. The plants, animals, and dirt drew in the fascination of a particular man. He enjoyed taking long walks where the wind would dance through his hair, the birds would sing atop of the trees, and the grass would brush his legs. One evening, a group of minuscule black-colored animals swarmed around a tree— he had never witnessed such a breathtaking phenomenon. Curiosity filled his mind, and the man abducted some of the animals back to his dwelling. He called them bugs. He started to experiment with the bugs, feeding them various types of plants and fruits. Some grew bigger than others, some grew wings, and some grew more legs. He scurried over to a witch nearby, to buy multiple magical liquids and herbs for his experiments with the bugs. The man injected each bug with a different formula. His results brought him a tremendous amount of joy. He discovered the ability to forge new species, each looking completely different from another.

One of the species he created was the mosquito. The mosquito developed a slim body, needle-like mouth and long wings. After years of experiments, the bugs grew to have relationships with one another, but they suffered through a large amount of loss. Some of the man’s unsuccessful experiments caused numerous bugs to die. The living bugs that remained became furious with the man, but he had full control over them. They felt so restricted because of their overbearing evil master. He would allow the ill bugs to die in their cages. Eventually, the mosquito also grew weak.

One fortunate day, the man left the ladybug’s cage unlocked. The ladybug leaped to her escape and freed all the other bugs while the man went out for a walk. When he came back, the majority of the bugs dashed right past him, out to where they should belong. He stood in fear as he heard the bees buzz pass his ears and the worms wiggle across his feet.
