” On his first job as a biologist, Farely Mowat learned many things about the Arctic wolf and about himself.” Mowat records his observations of wolf behavior and his account of daily life in the sparsely populated Keewatin District in Never Cry Wolf. As Mowat comes closer to the wolf world, he comes to fear with them on onslaught of bounty hunters and government exterminators out to erase the noble wolf community from the Arctic.

To start, the government, followed by the trappers and the hunters, they blame that the wolves are killing the caribou, and creating a decrease in the population. To pursue this, it was proved that the caribou population has dropped of 4,000,000 in 1930 to less than 170,000 in 1963. But, yet, Mowat has observed this, in the wolf pack. Mowat was told a story by Ootek, an inhabitant and friend of Mike, about the relationship of the wolves with the caribou. To summarize the story, it was found that the wolves actually make the caribou herd stronger. Futhermore, the wolves actually eat the sick or disabled caribou. Ootek described the relations of the caribou and the wolves as ” almost entity.” p.84. Also, if the wolves do eat the caribou they eat it all of it, to the last ounce. As well after that, the wolf packs dismember the carcass and bury it. It is also a wonder of what else do the wolves eat. Mowat observed and found out that mice, squirrels, and fish were part of the wolf diet. “I had assumed that fishes could hardly enter largely into the wolves diet…” p.84. In addition, Mowat actually observes the internal side of the caribou. To his observation, he finds parasites. This has proved that the caribou would be doomed to die anyway. Thus, this means that it isnt just the wolves eating the caribou, but also the hunters and trappers. Therefore, Mowat has observed the daily life of a wolf family, and noted on many things.

Secondly, Mowat has read many different articles about wolves, but what he observes is totally different.
