Margerie R. Laguna                                                                Nov. 11, 2015BSE – 3A                                                                        Mr. Ryan Sanchez“Clash of the Titans”        As a student of a Mythology class, I like the movie. It is a fantasy film which most of the audience can be entertained, especially the kids and the teenagers who like actions and less dramatic films. I also give my utmost appreciation to the teamwork of the digital animators, special effects personnel, art directors, hair, makeup and prosthetic designers and game and athletic actors that made the Clash of the Titans be produced in a fantasy epic in a digital world, which the word “unimaginable” and “impossible” no longer exists.        However, this film showed less romantic side of the story. It was more focused on the battle and the quest of Perseus, and the character of Andromeda has not given much of attention. Their love affair was also not shown in the movie, it seems like Perseus is much inlove or interested with Io, his guardian since he was a baby. Never once in the story that Perseus think of saving Andromeda from the Kraken, instead he wants to destroy the Kraken so he can get at Hades. Based from this scene, I can say that the core of the Clash of the Titans is not love that motivates the hero but rather hatred motivates him. We can connect it in our  modern times, wherein most of the people actually do great things or heroic deeds just to show revenge to their enemies and be boastful with their abilities and not really to save their loved ones or to prove their love to someone.

For me this film is successful in giving the audience the visual appearance of the story of Perseus which is the point of the movie. With the great effects that they used, the monsters become more realistic and threatening, the actions are well performed, and the sound effects really added to the greatness of the movie.         This film showed a lot of stories which we can connect in our lives that most of us experienced. The rivalry of Zeus and Hades is actually evident in the part where Hades wanted to beat the throne from Zeus by being powerful from the fear of the people. It can be related to all the siblings’ rivalry that happened within the family. There are times that we want to beat or be superior with the other. The love for family was also seen in the movie wherein Perseus feel bad when his family was killed by Hades while fishing, that result him to revenge with the gods. Same with how people feel when their families are being insulted or harassed, they wanted justice and they got angry to those people who did it to them. That’s why most of the news nowadays are brutal and when you asked them for their reason why they did it, they will answer that they just want justice or because they feel bad for their loved ones.
