Of course, you can learn the basics of English in your country, but only a native speaker can explain to you the meaning of a joke or a pun. Moreover, Americans use specific body language, which makes a conversation more expressive and interesting, and you would miss out on this cultural aspect if you only studied English from an English-language teacher in your own country. All of these points make communication with native speakers unique.
