Emmett Till was born July 25, 1941 in Chicago by his mother Mamie Till. During this time period African Americans were being treated different from other races. I think Emmett Tills death impacted the world because his death stirred a lot of controversy because of the witness the verdict decision and how it impacted America today.
Emmett Tills died August 28th 1955 from a brutal beating and several gunshot wounds to the neck and head. His body was dumped into the Mississippi River, his body has been decaying since his death. A local fisherman fished his body out the water. His body couldnt be identified since it took such brutal beatings.The only evidence they had of his death was his body but none could tell it was him. Carolyn Bryant was arrested for the death of Emmett till.
At the time African Americans were being treated like crap. They had separate schools, church and separate hospitals. Segregation was at its peak in the 1950s although Emmett tills killer was arrested he was never convicted of crime. The verdict ruled him not guilty. This cause an uproar in the north and south of America. Many people believe he got off not guilty because he was white. I believe it is true that Roy Bryant got away with murder because the court had all the evidence they need to convict him. Also Roy Bryant was part of the KKK they were a group that went around lynching and killing African Americans.
This case impacted Americans because it showed the cruelty that African Americans are going through. This sparked a Civil rights movement, the death of Emmett till was taken seriously. African Americans started to rally around America demanding rights. Martin Luther king used Emmett till death as an example of how the African Americans were being treated in America. When amendment 15 was passed it was because of the civil war movement.
Emmett Till dead changed America because I think Emmett Tills death impacted the world because his death stirred a lot of controversy because of the witness the verdict decision and how it impacted America today. If it wasnt for his death many of civil war movement would have been delayed and many laws today allowing rights to African Americans wouldnt have been passed.
