Delegation Skills
Delegation is when managers, leaders or supervisors give responsibility and authority to subordinates to complete a task, and let the subordinates, team, or employees figure how the task can be accomplished. However, delegation in most organizations is viewed as passing the buck. Whatever the department, team, or organization perception may be, delegation is necessary to achieve business goals and objectives.

Delegation is a very difficulty for most managers, team leaders, or supervisors particularly if they started from the bottom and had to work their way up. Most managers, team leaders or supervisors want to remain in control they hate relinquishing responsibility. Managers feel comfortable, making the same decisions they have always made. They believe they can do a better job themselves. Trust becomes a factor especially when there are time constraints. Managers dont want to risk losing any power and stature as long as things are going alright. However, they do lose respect, power and stature when the task isnt completed on time and they didnt learn to delegate.

An effective manager will know his or her team and they will either delegate the whole task to one person or select a group of people to accomplish the assigned task. An effective manager will clearly specify the desired results and assign the required or necessary task to individuals if it is a team goal but an effective manager would never define the method to accomplish the task or goal. However an effective manager would make suggestions, provide information regarding effective resources and plant ideas. An effective manager would have the employee summarize to him, their impressions of the assign goal or project and the results they are seeking. An effective manager would be consistent and get ingoing non-intrusive feedback about the progress the individual or team is making towards the completion of the project and achieving the desired results.

An effective manager will maintain open lines of communication, if they are not satisfied with the progress the team is making they will provide guidance not take the project back and reassign it to someone else. This is the absolute last resort. Most of all an effective manager will evaluate and reward employees for good performance and successful results.
