In the society, vocabulary plays an important role as well as in communication both in spoken and written. To learn English as a second language is a solid foundation. It is a primary skill that should be mastered by individuals before they acquire another language skill such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

From the statement above, it is very important to a student to quickly build up a large store of words. Research studies have shown the strong links between having an extensive vocabulary and achieving school success.

“Not all readers are writers and not all writers are readers”, as they say. In relation to this statement, they will not be able to comprehend the content of the text if they have less vocabulary. They also cannot speak fluently if their vocabulary is poor. And they cannot write when they want to convey their opinion or ideas.

A large vocabulary opens for students up to a wider range of reading materials. A rich vocabulary also improves students’ ability to communicate through speaking, listening, and writing.

The ability to learn new vocabulary is important for greater educational success. Student who have the skills to identify, learn, and use new words can access texts and new information with greater inferential skills and increased accurate understanding. A substantial part of knowing a word is the ability to deconstruct the unfamiliar word with word-analysis skills.

Furthermore, the wider vocabulary you have, the more knowledgeable you most likely are as a student. To increase your vocabulary skills, you must read books, dictionaries and other references. As you go on, you will encounter difficult words as well as those simple words.
