I dont really have a favorite movie because there are so many that I like. They are all different and I like them all for their uniqueness. One of my very favorites is Edward Scissorhands. Tim Burton is a great director and I really like all of his films that Ive seen. This is one of my very favorites. In it, Burton uses color in a number of different ways. He uses a lot of black and gray when showing the world that Edward comes from, one that is dark and very lifeless (in the fact that Edward isnt naturally born or alive and since his creator has died). Edwards world that he has known up to the point of the Avon ladys visit has been very cold and isolated from the rest of the world. When Edward ends up moving to town, he is welcomed into a world filled with all kinds of colors as the world down there is full of life. Not only does Burton use color to show setting and mood in this movie, he also uses certain colors to predict when something is going to happen. Whenever something is about to go wrong for Edward, everything around him seems to be very dull and black and white or gray. A good example of this is when Edward is in Kims (the girl) boyfriends house robbing it. If you notice, the walls are all very white and all the furnishings in the house are either black or white. In this class, I hope to learn a lot more about how movies are made and be able to find deeper meaning in films in order to learn from them and appreciate them much more.
