BoothMay 3, 2007AbstractThis paper will examine how educational tools help students to attain higher education goals. In this instance, the higher education is a master in business administration. The goal or mountain top is graduating with a 3.0 or above grade point average. The educational tools create the practice of culture, ethics, drive, and discipline in the individual. They are designed to build a foundation of prosperity and stability in the present and future life of the student.

Table of ContentsIntroductionEveryone feels the desire to reach the mountain top of their goals, but very few succeed. “Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything.” (Quotes.com- Napoleon Hill, 2007). Attaining the MBA degree at the University of Phoenix represents a mountain top right now. The goal is apparent, the path is well lit and the journey offers challenges. However, the desire to achieve climbing to the top of this mountain takes discipline. Maintained desire and drive to stay disciplined on the journey is necessary in the pursuit of success.

Problem StatementEducational tools are necessary for getting to the mountain top when bombarded with challenges and distractions along the way. Tools are pieces of equipment meant to be used to repair, build, break down, take apart, construct, bury, dig and adhere in order to complete a task. The educational tools provide a pathway to the mountain top by establishing credentials, culture, values, ethics, drive and discipline infused in the learning process.

Elements RequiredEstablishing credentials, culture, values, ethics, drive and discipline through educational tools provides a pathway to the mountain top. Begin by burying the past accomplishments and start to construct advanced credentials in life. The tool of credentials can fortify a rock, creating a foundation to stand on as written proof of ones accomplishments. Set a career path for success by attaining a bachelors, masters or doctorate from a University or accredited institution of higher learning.

Learn based on the scheduled times set aside for convenient online or on-site courses and a self-regulated time management schedule. Develop the practical business skills necessary to reach the next level of career advancement in as few as 18 months. (DeVry University, 2007).

The most effective tools are the ones given. Implement the tools given to the student by the university, such as the computer lab, resource books, materials, printers, online library, telephone and fellow students for assistance. Facilities as a educational tool is noted in the Homer Plessey vs. Ferguson, supreme court case 163 U.S. 537, where under the doctrine separate but equal; “equality of treatment is accorded when the races are provided substantially equal facilities, even though these facilities be separate.” (The National Center for Public Policy Research, 2007). Effective tools contribute to best practices of time management, motivation and productive results.

Although these tangible tools are effective, other intangible tools contribute to individual success as an MBA student. The best tools given are inert gifts; talent, common sense, a mind, hands, strength and a mouth. Hands must be used to take notes, type papers and distribute materials in presentations. Without strength to be persistent in the effort to stay on task, reaching the goal becomes difficult. A mind allows the thinking process to flow into the body. The central nervous system and nervous system is affected and reacts to the telecommunication of a task the brain tells the body to perform. This communication process stimulates abilities to speak, write, and use hands to achieve goals in life.

Furthermore, the urgency of the message communicates the desire and motivation for the task to be performed rapidly. Without the proper nutrition, the brain and body does not function at its full capacity and inhibits common sense. Therefore, seek to feed the mind and body healthy, nourishing natural and spiritual food. When these inert tools are lacking, one can seek the aforementioned university tools as a substitute or enhancement.

Believe it or not, University design encourages a high business and social culture for the individual. Absorb the diversity of the student body, the professional design of the office like classroom, computer lab and facilities and the solitude of the climate. Likewise, witness the professional dress and business attire of the CEO, executives, administrators and staff in the educational institution. Duplicate the professional verbal and body language expressed in pleasant and unpleasant circumstances and conversations. Continue to motivate self as an Advisor or Counselor motivates the student. Constantly self-evaluate at the end of the day to identify how close to actualization one has become. Eliminate the negative aspects that are interfering with progress and accentuate the positive elements and aspects of self that contribute to success.
