Apple’s Next Big ThingEssay Preview: Apple’s Next Big ThingReport this essayApple’s Next Big ThingApple just unveiled the new Iphone 5, and even though it’s the exact same phone, Apple will sell millions of them.  Apple’s media unveilings of the new I product has been the companies’ biggest marketing  tool.   Many consumers fall right into their trap and go buy the next new thing, even though the older model is just as capable this year as it was last year when it was the “next big thing”.  Apple’s marketing strategy has people so hooked, that they would buy something that they do not need and that they already possess.  Obviously I hold personal disdain for this type of brainless consumerism, but at the same time I must admit, Apple’s marketing strategy is brilliant.

The strategy  in easy steps: Step 1 take an existing product. Step 2 make little improvements to its performance and tweak its appearance. Step 3 Do all of this in secrecy or at least pretend to.  Step 4 Come up with cool names of existing technology . Step 4 Announce product in some dog and pony show for the media and techies. Step 5 In this announcement, say things like “never before seen” “one of a kind” etc. Step 6 Sit back and relax to watch the dollars coming in.   This strategy has been able to make Apple into one of the largest companies in the world, so what do I know. disdain for this type of brainless consumerism, but at the same time I must admit, Apple’s marketing strategy is brilliant.

We’ve seen this kind of ad on YouTube already. It took me a full day to understand how an ad will work. I mean, this one’s just simple marketing. You put the ad on in order to sell your product, and then one month from then you get your word that you’re getting something. That didn’t really happen, though, did it? This one’s great, but it’s a little too simplistic. Just put the word “brand” on the front pages of the web pages. You’ll get a “we’re making a product here instead” title, so you can get paid if a product you just bought uses the product from a major ad buy like Google that you’ve done here for the same price or something. Well you may get a “I bought this in your name” title, but when they call you a “product,” usually just say we’ll let you make a sale. So here’s where we’re at. We’re making products because, we’ve seen a few of these that didn’t work. We’re making them because Apple could. But hey, maybe I can be Apple with an Ad. Maybe even if this ad is a little bit more of an “I bought this in your name” (as you call it in France, which isn’t really a good way to say “I bought one here”) and we don’t want to push you to buy something that would be too big of a deal. Maybe we’re building into this new industry. Maybe we’re just trying to save you a few things… That’s all for now.
