Early Timesof Kurt Cobain and Beginnings of NirvanaEssay Preview: Early Timesof Kurt Cobain and Beginnings of NirvanaReport this essayKurt Donald Cobain was born in February 20, 1967 to Don and Wendy Cobain in Hoquiam Washington. The son of an auto mechanic, he lived in Hoqiuam briefly before moving with his parents to nearby Aberdeen, Washington, a small logging town where he was born.Early on, Cobain showed an interest in art and music.According to his Aunt Mari, “He was singing from the time he was two. He excelled at drawing, learned to play piano by ear and practiced beating a set of kids drums he received as a gift. He was doted on by family members as the center of attention. He spent lots of time with his little sister Kim, whom he adored. This time in Kurts life was a happy contented one. This contentment would soon end, as now he and Kim had to deal with their parents yelling and fighting as their marriage became increasingly stormy.

At the age of 9 his parents divorced {an event which he later cited as having a profound impact on his life}leaving Kurt very withdrawn and quiet. After a year spent living with his mother following the divorce, he went to live with his father after the divorce. On the weekends, he would visit his mother and his sister. His father later remarried and Kurt resented his stepmother Jenny and her two children. On his 14th birthday Kurt received a guitar from his Uncle Chuck and it inspired him to learn to play and it offered him a respite from his unhappiness at home.In 1982, Cobain left his father’s place and bounced around from relative to relative for several months, sleeping in friends cars,a hospital waiting room and even in an old refrigerator box on a friends porch.

His life changed profoundly when he discovered punk rock. While hanging out at the Melvins practice space, he met Krist Novoselic, a fellow devotee of punk rock. Novoselics mother owned a hair salon and Cobain and Novoselic would occasionally practice in the upstairs room. A few years later, Cobain tried to convince Novoselic to form a band with him. After months of asking, Novoselic finally agreed to join Cobain, forming the beginnings of Nirvana. After a series of drummers they found Dave Grohl who seemed to complete the band. They gained overnight fame after the release of Smells like Teen Spirit and were seemingly unstoppable. But for Kurt there were too many demons to contend with and on April 5, 1994 it all came to a halt after Kurts body was found at his home, the end of the reluctant spokesman of a generation.

Downtown

With one week before his death, Bob left an early note. In the early evening, he took his belongings and left with his wife at the intersection of the north and south sides of downtown. At 5:15 pm, he went to his car, drove to the University of Phoenix campus, loaded up his wallet, then left the building. As he walked home, Janie asked Krist a couple questions.

“Are you in the middle of a fight with this?” asked Krist.

“Yeah, sure, but I’m not doing anything wrong,” Bob said. “Like I said, I was just looking to make it to the end. That’s when I called. ”

“Hey, my name is Josh,” Janie replied. “I want you to go ask my mom and dad.”

After a half hour of conversation, Janie said, “Okay, come on then, man. We have a really big deal on this, I guess.”

“Okay, good.”

After a half hour of conversation, Krist talked. He said it might be time for him to move in. He said he needed to take his business to the University of Phoenix campus to be sure. He didn’t have a car and wasn’t carrying any documents or anything to take care of. She said she would drive over to look for Krist. Bob and Janie headed to the parking lot, where Krist took Janie’s keys and he drove to the garage, where Janie got into trouble and ran at him. With Janie running around frantically and trying to steal all their things, Krist tried to escape from him. He then shot the car’s windows and hit the front and rear windows with his rifle. Bob and Janie continued to run. One of Krist’s friends said that this might have been the only time they had seen Bob go back.

At night, Krist and Janie were having a hard time getting over how they knew about the shooting. They spent the next four days hiding in their basement. In that time everything from their apartment to their cars to their clothes were all stolen. After a while, Bob, Janie and Krist were told to go to the cemetery. The next morning, as a group, Krist was shot and killed near the corner of 20 Avenue and North 8th Street. He was rushed to the University of Phoenix Hospital where he died of his wounds.

Later that day, during an argument over a photo album on the floor of the basement refrigerator, Krist was kicked in the face. Another person was also shot and killed. The next day, Krist was found dead in a hotel room tied to his car in a dark alley. On April 2, 1996, Krist’s body could not be located.

One day after the shooting was brought to light at the University of Phoenix, a reporter for the University Times took Krist’s body and threw it at the street below. The article explained the killing as a murder and called for arrests for various groups responsible for the murder. Later, in the summer of 1996, the reporter had his own murder investigation closed off, with the reporter finding a suspicious person
