My brother was hit by a drunk driver in the early hours of the morning. He had pulled over to the shoulder off the ramp of the expressway to help a friend out with his car that was stalled. It took only seconds for the drunk driver to hit the back of my brothers car. His car dragged about 10 feet from where he was parked. Everyone in the car was knocked unconscious. My brother was the only one that came to at the time and was in shock to see his two friends covered with blood. After the whole ordeal my brother came out of the hospital with a couple of scratches and that is when I knew that God was there for my brother that day. As for his two friends one is in a wheel chair and the other had permanent brain damage. This was all because of a drunk driver.

The man who had hit my brothers car was heavily intoxicated and stated that he never saw the cars. After the collision the drunk driver got off of his car with not a scratch on him. He was arrested but was released on bail. This was injustice because this man had already been convicted twice with drunk driving offences. Finally through a long process he was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison. Although this man was locked up it still did not take away the pain my brother and our family went through.

We went through emotional roller coasters that eventually lead to recovery. It took months for my brother to recover from the nightmares and the guilt. I also would wake up in the middle of the night screaming from nightmares putting myself in my brothers place. As a family we all came together and went through counseling and church. God helped us overcome this terrible ordeal also helped all of my family realize how precious each one of our lives our.

Every time my brother goes out that door I always tell him to be safe, buckle up and be aware of who is on the road. My brother is a lot more cautious now. There is not a night that goes by that I dont remember that event. Out of all of this we have grown even closer. My sister, my mother and I check up on him at night just to see if he is there in his room safe or we call him on his cell phone to know when he is coming home or when he needs to come home. I have always believed in miracles and this I would say was a miracle to me.
