Man has always been on an unending quest for technological advancement. It started with the discovery of fire and the yearning to understand and acquire it. From there, man created the wheel. Now we are connected through tiny computers and always a second away from being in contact with anyone, anywhere. With the advancement of technology, there has always been a fear that has opposed the change. From history, one can see that the benefits of advancement far outweigh the disadvantages of these life changing events. Many people still have a fear to evolve and rely on computers to drive us instead of human beings, but the benefits from it would also outweigh the opposition. Driver-less cars are a great idea because of the jobs they could create, the time it would save the police, and the efficiency of machines.

Although the cost to implement this might be seen as high, the impact of the jobs it would create would be huge. New jobs would be created for the design and programming of the cars. They would require a set of specific programming skills to ensure the integrity of the functionality. This would create jobs to teach said specific skills to others and certifications for the programmers. The design of these vehicles will take time and preciseness to master. This would also lead to extensive training plans for the designers, which would also need instructors to teach. These cars would also need special technical support and mechanics to work on them. When a car breaks down or needs maintenance, it will need an expert mechanic in this new field of vehicles. The mechanics for for driver-less cars would also need in-depth training. Special technical support lines with trained support technicians would have to be set up for minor problems that the user could potentially run into on occasion.

Although people might be skeptical about the security of these cars, the police would benefit from the extra time this would create for them. Imagine no more DWI checkpoints or worrying about getting a ticket for speeding. With the car driving itself, there would be no need to bother with DWI’s.

The owner of the vehicle could get as inebriated as they wanted and get into their car with no thought of driving since it would be able to drive them back home itself. The speed of the car would be regulated by its programming so there would never be an incident of the user going above the speed limit. It would become easier to track down certain people or to stop police chases. All of these new vehicles would be low-jacked. When there is a kidnapping or an individual that is wanted by the police, they could be found with ease by just using a GPS to pinpoint the location of their transportation. If there was a situation where the suspect of a crime was attempting to flee and run from the authorities, the police would be able to connect to the vehicle, shut it down, and lock said suspect in the car while having it drive them straight to the police station.

Although there is concern about the safety of these vehicles, the efficiency and accuracy of machines would prevail. With this giant step in technology, there would be an exponential decrease in vehicular deaths and less traffic congestion. These marvelous new vehicles
