But there are various unexpected event that causes fatal injuries to the user of the vehicle and even make collateral damage to others such as driver fatigue or drowsiness while traveling that can be prevented in some way. There are lots of different studies and developments from roads to vehicles on preventing an accident throughout the years past and still continues progressing up to this day. This study focuses on vehicle to be part of preventing errors to lessen accidents on the road.

The development of smart steering wheel system is the development technologies for detecting or preventing conditions of drowsiness. According to research, drowsiness is a medical condition and sleep disorder wherein an affected individual begins to feel tired or sleepy in an unsuitable time and place on unusual way. That includes having drowsiness while driving on the road. Compared to a usual driver, drivers that drove long hours such as truck drivers, provincial bus drivers, cab drivers and those on the rent-a-car drivers are commonly affected by drowsiness, making them prone to mistakes and may cause accidents and collateral damage

The smart steering wheel system can be a countermeasure that has the function to prevent such events that are occurring on a real-time environment. Smart steering wheel system can monitor the pressure applied which is necessary in order to detect drowsiness. In this case, when the drowsiness is detected according to the measurement or the amount of pressure needed, sensible signals and movements are issued to alert the user. The aim of the study will be positioned on the design and development of the steering wheel that uses a smart system for the drivers to improve their efficiency during driving and to lessen the human errors when considering drowsiness and also minimize road accident.
