I slightly remember watching The Sound of Music years ago, and dreaded watching it again. Watching it this time was different as I remember. As Im beginning to have a basic appreciation for music I really enjoyed it much more. When I really paid attention to the music and the words being sung it told the whole movie. I also think that the fullness of the music also depicts something as well.
I believe that just the music could tell the movie without seeing anything at all. It begins with her singing by herself in the mountains The Hills are Filled with Music, which in the end as they are escaping after becoming a musical family, it could be used as a metaphor as the hills were filled with music. Next came the sisters singing how do you deal with Maria, which they sent her off to be with the captain. It was an up and down song as each would take the side of Maria and then the down part was when they were telling her flaws. The first time she was teaching the kids to sing she sang a basic song giving the notes of the music, in just hearing this you could picture someone teaching someone to sing. The Next song was during the thunderstorm, where she sang about being in a happy place and getting away from the thunderstorm. Then they sang greeting the captains mistress, which was a nice greeting song. Not going on with every song but each song tells a part of the story, and the orchestral background helps with the mood, playing upbeat happy background music while it was going on.
I have a theory on the music. The theory is that as the movie goes on the more people that are singing the happier everyone is. Example of this is at the very beginning where Maria is by herself. She is happy but she knows she is missing something in her life. The next song was preformed by four to five nuns, I believe this shows that she makes them happy but at the same time she is not there singing therefore I believe that it wasnt for her to be happy with their decision. Next song Maria sung was with the children. In this song their was fullness in the music. She was singing along with seven kids. Five of which had the female parts and the male parts. This is when she began to realize where she belonged and her purpose for being there.
The Story
Once she heard that she was to be the first one to be asked to sing this song at the conclusion stage of the movie it was decided to send a telegram to all the nuns at the convent and they would decide who would sing the song.
I met the girls from the other nuns and began talking to them. They were very quiet and kind on the mic. So far the nuns told me the whole story but they are also making them very happy. I also heard them talk, but only because I heard the girls. If you heard them talking they would be very happy.
A week later, they were on the way to see the movie and we all started discussing who the songs were. They were making fun of me because I had said I wanted to be on the set of the movie. All it was about was making fun of me on the set. So I started to wonder the answer to “The last part of the movie was a lot harder than I thought, even with all the other songs it was hard to win my own singing contest” but I kept asking them so they became happy with me. They were also excited and kind to me, not really sure how much they were getting with me but knowing the way the girls talked made them happy and happy they did it right after the movie. So I kept trying to reach out from the convent, they never replied. I tried asking the sisters back but got nothing but nothing and the nuns were very unhappy. In fact the sisters thought nothing of me and did not even try to reach out.
In March, the nuns sent a letter to all the sisters to ask that I take up the role of the songwriter and sing the song. When I heard the reply the sisters were very happy.
The Brothers from the Main
When the sisters arrived at the home of the brothers back on February 1st, the brothers from the group at the Main (who were in the scene on top of the bridge) walked in their uniforms to the scene. Some of them started singing the song. So they came to my house and I just sat there, singed about 15 min of the song, then sang it. It felt like a new kind of singing and at the same time I took the role entirely from them. It was at that point when it was all over the place they wanted to come back on top of the bridge and that’s when this song became a thing.

We heard the Sister Voices and began to think that we could take the role of the music maker and that we would be able to communicate with our family over a great distance. So we said, “We’ll do it ourselves and sing our own song. You will only have to listen to a couple lines (or so when you are singing) and
