Abstract
Domestic violence is a term that is used to indicate violence that occurs between individuals at the family level either between partners, relatives, or individuals who are bonded by marriage or children (Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005, 2006). Usually domestic violence entails the physical assaults, which may include, hitting, or slapping somebody, sexual assault and rape, threats, robbery, stalking and homicide (GAO, 2006). The aim of the proposal is to highlight domestic violence in the recent contemporary times. Literature review is used to highlight the recent trends in domestic abuse. The proposal further gives the methods of data collection and analysis concerning the cases in domestic violence, the potential limitation of the research includes the underreporting of cases. The methodology to be used is the quantitative and qualitative approaches that will give a more comprehensive observation from the sample. Data will be obtained through the various departments related to domestic violence as well as sample questionnaire so that validity and reliability of the data can be verified. The findings will be used to determine the prevalence of domestic violence in America. The information is vital as it will help the policy makers to make better decisions when dealing with problems relating to domestic violence.

Introduction
Domestic violence is a major problem in America and other parts of the world. It can happen to anyone whether a child, a man, a woman or the young people within the family setting. In many cases, domestic violence is usually overlooked, sometimes excused and even denied by the perpetrators. There is no clear cut as to what act can be regarded as domestic violence and therefore, there is a lot of abuse associated with domestic violence but the victim remain reluctant as they are not aware of who to approach to report the cases to or they don’t want to report the cases at all. (Rapp-Paglicci, Roberts, & Wodarski, 2002). This being the case, many children, women and sometimes men have been suffering silently not knowing what to do as they think that exposing the abusers would lead to family breakups, divorces and other family problems. Little effort has been taken by state government around the world to end this vice but some countries have criminalized it and have put hefty fines to those who are found guilty of domestic violence. There ought to be sensitization of the population so that they may be aware of what domestic violence is and what contributes to domestic violence. Domestic
