Who I Am
Who I Am
In the 6th grade, my parents got divorced. It changed my life completely and even though it was a very emotional time in my life it shaped me into the person I am. There are many things that have influenced who I am today, but the divorce of my parents helped me to control my emotions, grow up and become more independent and to focus on my problems instead of others.

My parents decision to go their separate ways was not an easy decision. For months my sisters and I had to hear argument after argument, day in and day out. We watched my dad get put on the couch and staying hotels just because they could not talk without getting into an argument. On the day my mom and dad told us that they were getting divorce it was probably the most emotional day of my life. After weeks of holding in tears, I cried for about 5 hours straight. I was just thinking about how everything would change and how different everything would be. I had become a professional in keeping my feelings to myself; I wasnt able to hold it in anymore.

When it came time to pick who I wanted to live I really learned how to think of my own wellbeing. My parents were both pressuring to pick which one another and I eventually just had to disregard if I hurt one of their feelings and I had to be selfish and pick who I thought I would be better off living with, and that person was my mom. My mom although went through a patch of wanting to express her freedom by going out several nights a week which required me to develop a sort of independence to be able to take care of myself: making myself dinner, taking care of my pets, and doing chores.

Because of my parents divorce, I had to move schools and had to make all new friends and meet new people. Without my parents splitting up and me having to move, I would not have the amazing friends that I have now. I would not have met my best friend, Shelby, on the bus in 7th
