The Uniqueness of Communication
There are many different types of varying communication styles that are used day in and day out. Some are only slightly varying while others are vastly different from each other. The two types of communications that will be discussed can be found at opposite ends of the spectrum, they are unique and generic. These two types of communication are very distinct and are each used in very specific situations. I believe that unique types of communication are the most commonly used today in our society and with good reason. More often than not people communicate with each other on a personal level rather than to groups on a generic basis.

A generic type of communication is used on a more general, impersonal basis. It can be used to address a small group, or the masses rather than to address an individual. An example of this type of mass communication could be something as simple as a commercial for Bud Light stating that it has less carbs than the competition to a privacy statement that is distributed to every CitiBank credit card holder. This type of communication has no intention of being personalized and is strictly there to inform a large amount of people on a very general basis. Generic or general communication practices have long been used since the creation of print and continue to advance in todays world. Advertising companies are even beginning to use text messaging as a form of communication. It seem so simple, however in a matter of minutes my messaged was delivered to well over a 1000 people, some that I knew and many that I didnt. It was a very effective form of generic or general communication that worked very well.

A unique or one of a kind type of communication is one that is used on a more personal basis. It is generally in the form of oral communication, however, is sometimes expressed in print. An example of this type of unique communication could
