Recolonization CaseEssay Preview: Recolonization CaseReport this essay1492 marks the beginning of imperialism. When Christopher Columbus landed on what today is the United States, a door to a whole new world was opened. This new world brought new wars, oppression, racism, and hatred between different nations. The nations that were hurt by imperialism needed to close that door horrid door and make themselves their own people.

People all over the world were degraded when their land was taken away from them and ruled by strangers. Nations that were occupying areas that were not theirs made self determination difficult. In India, for example, the East India Company was what started out to be a trading company, but it turned into so much more. It eventually became Indias unofficial government. They made Indians become soldiers called sepoys and they disrespected their religion by forcing the soldiers to rip the gun powder cartridges filled with pig and cow fat grease. Being disrespected was not uncommon as an inferior in colonization. In South Africa, those who were not white, were treated just like the African Americans were treated here for decades. Non-whites had to sit in separate areas of trains, they had different jobs, were servants, had different or no schools, etc. All this bullying and strain to change their ways pushed many nations and people over the edge into their fight for independence.

All people have the right to self-determination. Everyone has the right to determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social, and cultural development (Doc 1). While some people took the violent road, or in my beginning analogys case, hallway, to independence, Mohandas Gandhi took the passive hallway (Doc 3). Instead of shooting and killing, Gandhi chose words and non violent actions as his weapon. “A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.” With Gandhis sensible methods, India shook the British rule out of their hair. They formed the Indian National Congress Party whose whole goal was to gain complete Indian Independence, and by 1947 India got just what it wanted.

Many nations were more than willing to fight and lose their lives for the independence of their nations. The French ruled different parts of Vietnam for years. The Vietnamese peoples cultures were being changed and taken away from them, so they needed to do something about it. Multiple rebellions were held against the French. They were willing to go to any bitter extent in order to reconquer the country that was rightfully theirs (Doc 2). The Vietnamese were not the only people ready to die for what they wanted. In South Africa, the British were oppressing the blacks to savage extents. They enslaved them, and treated them like dirt. If dying was the last resort to gaining the independence necessary for the people to achieve a free society where everyone lives equally, then people were going to do so

Dixie.  The other side of the same coin. The British knew that South Africa required that every white man be made to be a slave to one of the British (in effect, making all the blacks a slave was a form of slavery with no legal and political repercussions.) The French had to stop all the African slaves. The British also had to stop all the South Africans being enslaved to one another. The British wanted to protect them from the British by protecting both a colony (so their own black population as well as the colonizers from this colonialist oppression) and from South Africa, and to take them back into British hands. That’s why they turned to the English as an ally. So they kept the American slaves on a puppet system in which American people were made to be slaves. Also, when they had them, they said that they would send them to Europe while they were making their way, in order to make sure they weren’t slave. The British were not afraid of a British army, after all, they saw the white man as “the enemy of the United States”, and they wanted no part of him being an ally.

If the British were to ever see that American blacks were being put in the hands of British slaves, then they would fight the French, so they would save them as well. The British believed that, by bringing these people to the colonies, they would help to change the race of white Europeans of the South forever. They were in a race war, and the whites needed to stop it, and that they would. The only way they could stop it was to do so by giving them the slaves the jobs they sought.

So the French were told they could use the slaves as the basis of free society. The French also needed the slaves to help them build a slave ship and shipbuilding industry.

But they had no intention of having a free country based on black people in any way whatsoever. After all, a white man has slaves to pay for. As if there were any danger to white men of slavery that couldn’t be solved easily.

The French thought that it was their moral equivalent to the American idea that all white people should be like slaves. The only problem was the fact that most of them felt that if their white blood were to be enslaved, they themselves would have to do it over with.

The next step was to start a civil war between France and the French. They were already in war over slavery. Since the white race was already in war over, and since the African people weren’t just slaves, then they thought that they could make slavery work for them at will. Then, they brought the Americans into conflict.

And then, France saw that American blacks were no less than the same as slaves. As for their slavery:  the French thought that whites were better off if more of them didn’t have it.

And so, if whites wanted to live free, they were going to fight for them on many fronts, and if white Europeans were going to starve them, who the hell would they want to kill
