Clearly, language can be a barrier. America is made of many different cultures although we are all Americans living in the same country, we are still somewhat separated. Our cultures are so different that we just dont understand where people are coming from. Just think if we could all understand each other and come together with different ideas. We could make great things happen.
America needs to come together and create one identity, an identity in which we can communicate on the same level with one another. Language is who you are. If you can understand someone elses language and culture, you can understand them and show respect to their way of life. As ——- says in ———————, “If a person has a low estimation of my native tongue, she also has a low estimation of me.” If you could connect with someone on that level, knowing where they come from and how they think, you could open up a whole new world of possibilities. And who knows, you might even like their culture and way of living. You could better connect with that person and be better equipped to work together. If you both could clearly share your ideas and knowledge, you could further improve your understanding of one another.
I personally would love to be able to speak another language. I know that it will take me farther in life because, for example, if I get a job working where I have to speak with people who dont speak English very well, I would want to be able to work with them without that constant struggle to communicate. Also, I would better understand where they are coming from and how they think. Knowing another language would not only help me in the workplace, but also in my whole life. It would expand my knowledge and help me to think outside my “little box”. It would open a whole new world of understanding for me.
