Career Planning & Management
Stephanie BeanCareer Planning & Management5/09/16Career Planning & ManagementWork ExperienceDo you currently have experience in your target career field? If so, how many years and what type of experience? I do have work experience in this field. I have 10 years work experience in the Medical Reception field. The only reason I got out of it was because I had my daughter thirteen years ago and now being out of it for so long I feel as though I need to have a degree to beat the competition. I also feel that the medical field is a constant changing field having a current knowledge and degree will better my chances of getting back into the field. How will this experience help you as you advance your career? I feel with bringing in my experience and my degree will have a huge impact of me having a better chance of moving in the career rather quickly. I would love to also advance into management which would be moving on with my degree and eager to learn new things. If you do not yet have experience in your target career, what are some of things you will do to get experience (volunteer, internship, job shadowing, etc.)?  I am going to call around and get some volunteering in locally. How might you find ways to gain experience? Where would you want to do this?  In my area we have a few places I know that I can get into for some office volunteer or internship work. I am going to brush up my resume and talk to office managers around here to get my foot in the door.

When would you ideally want to start getting your experience? I am going to start when I am a few classes away from my degree. They I would have my experience, my volunteering and my degree ready for when I make that leap into my wanted career. If you are advancing in your current career, how will you gain new experiences to help get you to the next level? No advancing yet I hope that is available to me in the future. What are some of the resources and support you might have available to you to help you create a plan to get experience? I have social media resources such as face book and linked in to help me make contact with local offices to get me on my path to my career.RelationshipsEveryone has a different comfort level when it comes to networking. On a scale of 1–10 (10 being extremely comfortable), how comfortable are you personally with networking, and why? My comfort level is about a 7 and the reason I say this is because I don’t find myself to be much of an extreme people person. I have a hard time opening up to new people but once I am comfortable. I am completely fine.   In what ways do you think you could increase your comfort level score by just one point? My comfort level will increase once I have everything organized and ready to go like my resume 100% brushed up. My cover letter tip top and my degree almost in hand.
