The Night is Darkest Just Before its Dawn
Can a film based on a comic book superhero really be considered a “masterpiece”? “The Dark Knight” is the sequel to “Batman Begins”, which is the first movie in the Batman saga of blockbusters. The first film was largely a study on how one man is driven to the point of becoming a masked vigilante, striving to become a symbol of hope and justice in a city infested with criminals and the morally bankrupt. It had scatterings of a universal message regarding the redemptive ability of humanity, but overall, it really was mostly Bruce Waynes story — and thats really all it had to be. In this sequel the writer Jonathan Nolan, takes opportunity to take this hero Bruce Wayne, and pit him against one of the greatest challenges he will ever face, one that threatens not only his purpose and his morals, but also puts the lives of those who supported him on this journey in danger. The Dark Knight is definitely a film that was made for the fans of the Batman series.

The characters in this movie are all perfectly casted and they are some of the best actors to play the roles of these characters. The main character is played by Christian Bale which is the role of Bruce Wayne. A billionaire dedicated to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld by night. Bale was an excellent choice to return in the role because of the positive response to his portrayal in the first movie. One of the two villains in the movie is “The Joker”, played by the late Heath Ledger. Throughout the film, the Joker states his desire to upset social order through crime, and comes to define himself by his conflict with Batman. To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the characters posture, voice, and personality, and kept a diary, in which he recorded the Jokers thoughts and feelings. Harvey Dent also known as “Two-Face” was the second villain in the movie played by Aaron Eckhart. Those are the three main characters in the movie who tied it together. It has a lot of supporting actors that help the movie flow but these three are what help make the movie epic.

I love the way “The Joker” perfectly accented the role he played. The whole persona he played in the movie was probably the best casting of the role in the whole Batman movie history. Heath Ledger brought on the characterization of his role as the Joker in an outstanding fashion. Also, the role of Harvey Dent was amazing to the old school comic book lovers. He played the role of the real hero without a mask in movie. After the accident which burnt him, he became “Two Face.” The charred and burnt skin on Two Face was so realistic and perfect. The Batmans costume was upgraded from the first movie. A lot more ballistic and projectile gadgets were added to help Bruce Wayne fight off villains. Batmans hard bodied steel armor was some of the most extraordinary work Ive ever seen put into the costume.

The landscape of Gotham City in which the movie takes place was top of the line modernized. The buildings in the movie were New York style built, along with the rural areas of the city including the alleys, sewers, and city in general. I came to love the dark skies at night in the movie because it portrayed how Gotham City was actually darkest just before dawn. The way the scenes
