What does the word âcorporalâ mean? For the purpose of this essay we define corporal relating to the body. The word âillegalâ means prohibited by the law. And by the phrase âcorporal punishmentâ we mean pain inflicted on the body, like canning. How else are we supposed to teach a child the difference between right and wrong? How can teachers establish order in the classroom? Corporal punishment has been banned in all civilized countries since 1986.
We will look at the case against corporal punishment. The most important reason is that hitting a child doesnât help solve anything. It doesnât teach the child the difference between right and wrong. It wonât teach the child why the adult is displeased.
Secondly, as older children are smarter and more observant, corporal punishment inflicted on them can almost certainly lead to bitterness and probably even more bad behaviour than before, as a result, later in life. They will grow up believe that violence is the right way to solve things. To finalize the point, I want to state that a parent or any adult, to a child, is a role model. As evidenced before, role models are extremely important, particularly to children. They look upon them for examples of what to do in certain situations
Thirdly, corporal punishment can mentally as well as physically harm the child; though the mental damage will definitely have a more lasting impact than the physical damage. Cuts and bruises can heal, but the memory of being beaten can never go away.
Now we will look at the case against for corporal punishment. Firstly I would state that corporal punishment is very different to child abuse. Child abuse is different from corporal punishment (they even have different names!). Child abuse is when children are physically hurt with no intention of teaching them anything at all. This could also be classified as aggression as there is no purpose in the abuse. Corporal punishment however, is different because there is a purpose in the punishment: to teach the child what is wrong and what not to do again. This will also lead them to learn that bad behaviour can lead to punishment. There are other methods of discipline as well, such as confinement but when all else has failed, the parent must resort to corporal punishment. p. It seems to me that corporal punishment can be a very different form of punishment, but I would agree that we need to rethink it. There are many examples of abuse.
The best way we can get rid of corporal punishment is for some form of social and emotional support. In other words we are fighting for freedom at the level of our children. If we don’t like corporal punishment here, let other people in our community give us a reason to take it. I would also note that we, for example, have done a lot to stop child abuse and child exploitation in the country. Many children in our community, including those in our home, are not only abused to an extent. I am sure we, too, can help other parents who are doing better. The point I make is the human experience. It can’t be treated like a criminal charge as they have been abused.
However, if we treat the problem as a public need, what are we doing? The solution for us is to create a social service, such as a social school to bring the offenders under a social system which provides them with food and shelter. It is very important and necessary to keep in mind the fact that you don’t need a social care staff as corporal punishment in many families makes sense. We should also build a social service for each person who is molested. There is nothing bad about a family going through a social service such as a social service because they can find support, education, support resources, work and other needs from anywhere. There is no reason why their parents might have abused them. If social service agencies and their employees were to create such a system, it would be so much better for us.
What about corporal punishment? What is corporal punishment?
It is commonly used for child abuse. All kinds of corporal punishment are used on adults to gain a better view of punishment. Sometimes, some people are told to look at the eyes or the lips of the children in order to view the consequences. Children are taught how to see what is happening to them at all times: to think about what is happening to them, to ask questions, to think about what is wrong, to be honest while being able to decide who to be on the judgment day. This has worked for many years in Sri Lanka and I know of no other country where people are so ready to learn how to help people who have been abused. There are some people who use corporal punishment on adults but I think we have done ourselves a big disservice and hurt our country when we have not done so.
You may be wondering how to find a public school that treats children better. All the public schools in Sri Lanka, in my view, are much safer than schools where the children are abused. And I would argue that a social education system is the best way to reduce the impact of corporal punishment. The reason why I don’t believe there is a better social system that comes from this fact is that corporal punishment is highly damaging. It may become a problem in children if they are seen by their parents in front of their eyes, or be punished if he puts on some bad clothes or shoes as punishment for a social service as mentioned earlier.
