Have you ever had taken a standardized test, and afterwards you just want time to reflect on your experience? Well, I have definitely taken a standardized test, as a matter of fact I have taken one every year since the third grade. The test is the same test, it just increases in difficulty as you progress in your education. The test is called FCAT which is the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. This year I had to take four different test math, writing, science, and most importantly reading. Of course each test had its own perks, however I believe the test that had the greatest impact on me was the reading FCAT. I will soon discuss my objective, when it came to testing environment, the pros and cons of reading FCAT, what I did to prepare and my suggestions on what I believe should be done next year. As I get started please feel free to join me as I examine my FCAT experience.

To begin with, my objective. As a human being who has been training for a specific test since August, my objective was pretty simple. Sit down in that blue, plastic chair, rest my eyes on a bright screened computer, focus, and excel. No questions. No exceptions. No misunderstandings. That was the easier version, however the more complex version was that I had work, train become disciplined, dedicated, determined and committed to achieve this one common goal. The goal to get a perfect score on my reading FCAT. Many try but few succeed, my plan was to fully apply myself so that I made it. It also involved realizing that this wasnt just ” some test” used to waste time, but that my scores could be viewed by high schools and colleges. Meaning that I had to buckle down and get serious about my success, because my future could depend on this one simple test. It alsaon included using my in classroom strategies and becoming comfortable in my testing surroundings. Speaking of surroundings why dont I move on to my testing environment.

Secondly, the environment of my testing experience, honestly wasnt the best. I didnt really enjoy my environment justjust because, I was extremely close to the person next to me. And by close I mean less than two feet apart. I could stretch back against the back of my chair and see at least two computers down the row. And our backpacks had to be stuffed underneath the computer tables squishing our feet and legs. And to top all of that off , the second day of testing one certain computer would not stop beeping. I mean the whole time we were testing, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. After a short while, I wanted to slam my computer down, and run out of the room, however I wont complain continuously.

There were some excellent things about my reading FCAT experience. For example, knowing the process was truly great. By knowing the process and by that I mean because I was so accustomed to the FCAT routine, I didnt have to stress with the thoughts of ” How do I do this? ” or ” What if I get confused? “. Instead I was aware of what was going on, and I believe that is another great plus. Another positive attribute about the reading FCAT was that I was prepared.

My journey to becoming prepared was a little tricky, but it all paid off in the end. Honestly, I believe my reading and language arts teacher, had a lot to do with that. There were many things that at the present time, I didnt
