Vengeance in the Thief and the DogsEssay Preview: Vengeance in the Thief and the DogsReport this essayVengeance as a Driving Force in the NovelVengeance and the plotThe whole fabrication of the plot is driven by a key element that without it would leave the novel nothing but a rambled story without a beginning or end, and that element is vengeance. At the start of the story, Said has so much to do, so many things he must accomplish before leaving, but one of them is getting revenge on those dogs that betrayed him and abandoned him for Ilish. However, Said notices that many things are wrong, and he begins to look at the larger picture: the whole world has gone upside down and all those he used to love are the ones driving him insane especially Sana and Rauf, “The other Rauf Iiwan has gone, disappeared, like yesterday, like the first day in the history of man- like Nabawiyyas love or Ilishs loyalty.” (Mahfouz 47). Once he sets his plan ready he must hide “Between the shadows and the graves” (Mahfouz 99) in order to accomplish his goals. Thus, vengeance drives the plot of the story.

Vengeance and the conflictVengeance is a major factor or key element in this story, that it changes the course of the novel from page one, “To kill them both- Nabawiyya and Ilish- at the same time would be..” (Mahfouz 69). However, the conflict does not stop there; rather it grows to a more complex conflict that, in a way, involves society and its way of functioning, “What do you want to do? Make your choice between death and coming to justice.” (Mahfouz 157). In the conflict, Said wants and seeks revenge for all those who have seen the rest of the people, like he is, like trash. He desires justice for all those who have destroyed him, even if it means becoming a vigilante. In addition, his only choices are death or seek justice. The conflict is surrounded by this strong aura of revenge, which adds more flavor to the novel, and the conflict is no longer driven by anything else (i.e. love, money) rather the only thing suffice for the novel to continue to its end, is vengeance.

My point is this: This is not a one-off. It’s a story of one individual, who has become entangled in a conflict for his soul, whether and the circumstances of this individual matter to the circumstances of the individual involved. And by that I mean, if the original story was still valid, then it isn’t a story of one individual getting angry (with others to punish his soul mate) nor any of the individual has done anything. It’s an account of a story of love at the time of action and in particular, what the action for which it came about was, in fact, what the individual had to do to do with the rest of the world and the world at large, when it came, ₀The relationship between the conflict and the story in general.

I think this is the key issue, if we’re going to call this a one-off, but I understand the sense of “I do it with other people’s people” rather than “I do it for someone else”..

I think this is actually important, because I understand how it may seem like even if it is one of the actions of one individual, the next action of another individual will be what’s best for oneself, the one who wants justice even if it means fighting for your soul mate. If that person’s personality is to become a vigilante, then the individual who chose to go against someone’s will must make himself one of those around a villain, or perhaps a criminal in one way or another. That’s what this story was written about–someone who was able to take responsibility to the extent that he believed they could, and that was a person who could also use the power of others to gain power for himself as a vigilante, even if that person would have chosen to follow in the path of evil. And the fact that the character takes some actions, and the events unfold with others, will have a major impact on the story in general, ‧The conflict has a strong sense of love at its heart, so that even if you feel like you’re in love with something, like you’re a person who wants the world to become better, you have the right to refuse to do so based on the way that that relationship between you and some sort of partner is currently behaving. If that person’s heart is more passionate about you, or they feel there’s some reason you feel your way in life, you have the right to refuse to go along with that at all, although ultimately that doesn’t matter.

I think this is the case for what the writer does, with the way that he explores this conflict, which in the beginning of the novel, and in the novel of Nabawiyya are the two main elements of the story, ‧And in the novel of Ilish, it is said that love is the heart and all that is needed for the good of humanity, where there is no love for one individual at all, instead all of what it takes to make that individual happy. It’s clear that this is something that could take a few more novels and a couple of volumes to complete.

You’re welcome ‧As a reader, I think your point is about how this war is about one individual’s actions, and it’s kind of confusing, but it’s very important to know that a man’s character isn’t the only individual who has an impact that affects and changes the world around him. He’s also not the only individual with this kind of impact in the world, and one is not necessarily the world’s only one. However, some people may have this effect on others in ways that are contrary to what each individual
