Introduction
Communication is essential in all aspects of life. When communicating you need to know the type of audience you will be delivering the message to. Be sure to gather all the correct information to be sure it is accurate from beginning to end. When you deal with a crisis situation as in the Chilean Minors accident you need to relay the information face-to-face as bad news needs to be handled with sensitivity and respect to the families and co-workers. The families will have questions and concerns that will need to be addressed at that time. Have a crisis counselor on hand. When you address the co-workers, you will need to be sure that all the safety issues are addressed and be able to give details. After all the families and workers are gathered and you have relayed all the details, then you have a member of the company call a press conference. When giving information to the press you need to be sure that all the possible questions as to who, how, when, where, and the steps that are going to be taken. The press release is a little more formal.
Communication from company to the families
Today at 2:00 pm there was an accident and explosion. 33 of our minors have been trapped. We are doing our best to proceed with rescue attempts and making sure that food and medical supplies are able to reach them. We will be sitting up a communication site close but out of harms way of the explosion site, so that the immediate family can have constant updates of the condition and steps that will be taken to rescue your loved ones. We are concerned with their safety, mental and physical, so we are working to get a plan in place so that you will be able to communicate with them. As soon as this is done you will be notified. At this time we are not sure of the time frame of rescuing your loved ones. As soon as we can estimate that you will be informed. If you have any further questions or concerns please address the communications site or call our emergency crisis hotline with your loved ones ID number and you will be updated on any new developments.

Internal news release to employees
As of 2:00 pm today, Aug. 5, 2011 33 of our employees working at the San Jose site were trapped in an explosion. The Codelco-team will be assessing what can be done to rescue them as soon as possible. At this time we are not sure of all the details on how the accident happened but they will be released as soon as the information becomes available. We have provided a crisis hotline and a communication tent at the site to help in keeping everyone informed of the progress of the rescue, which is not available at this time. A press conference will be called to address the medias concerns and we are asking you to please let
