Contexts of Communication
Contexts of communicationOne-to-one is a communication process which involves two people having a conversation without other people joining. A good example of were one-to-one can be used is when in job interview, the interviewer will be between the applicant and the manager. The one to one communication will involve provide a conversation which will have two people talking without having to talk over each other and will have better understanding of each other. An advantage of one to one communication is that it will provide a more friendly conversation e.g. talking to a client as it will help develop a positive relationships with the client which would make it comfortable for the client to communicating with the worker without being nervous.Group communication is when a number of people get together to have a discussion. Group communication is much more difficult compared to one to one communication as it requires all the members of the group to be working on the same page or thing. One of the thing that cause problems in a group communication is that there are different people with different personalities as some may speak a lot and others may rarely speak. Some people may not be confident enough to be able to speak in front or with a lot of people and some might not be interested which make them not want to get involved in the group. This will cause problems if it’s a group activity or discussion which will require all the members to give their thoughts and ideas. Due to these problem we now tend to see a group leader who will be leading the discussion making sure that everyone is participating or getting involved.

Formal and informal communication can be used between colleagues, professionals and service users or the client. In businesses they tend to mostly use formal communication which is a system of passing messages and information between positions within an organization through officially designated channels. This will mainly involve the information being passed from the employees to the manager and form the manager to the higher ups of the business.  Professional workers in a health and social care environment are required to speak in a formal way as it is clear, correct and avoids misunderstanding between them and the client. Informal communication is often used by people who are very close or who have known each other for a long time like friends and family or even work colleagues. Informal communication is the use of more casual language. In a health and social care environment people can start to communicate using informal language or start calling each other differently e.g. love which is now a common thing in some health and social care environment to call people love even just after meeting them. By doing this between colleagues it also help them when working together as this help break the communication barriers between the colleagues. It also help service users to be themselves around the service providers which easily remove the communication barriers
