Euthanasia, or assisted suicide, has been an ongoing controversy for many years. Fatally ill elderly are scared to face the way they die, and many are choosing to die prematurely, to die a dignified death. Should euthanasia be legalized for this reason? Legalizing euthanasia is not a sensible solution for our problems. It should not be legalized nor tolerated in Australia, or anywhere else in the world.
Euthanasia brings back memories of the Holocaust chronicles, when the dictator Hitler wanted to wipe out the unfavourables, consisting of the sick and dying.
One of the most common forms of assisted euthanasia carried out is by lethal injections, given by doctor while their patient sleeps. Legalizing euthanasia would be the same as decriminalising some forms of murder. If we make euthanasia legal, will our next step be tolerating, or maybe even legalizing murder? Euthanasia, in other words, is merely making murder sound respectable. There is no logic in decriminalising euthanasia. It just does not make any sense to have a law supporting the medical professionals take away human lives. No law should give anyone the rights to kill or murder another. No matter what. After all, that was the reason why Australia abolished the capital punishment. Because we still hold on to the values of morality and human ethics.
The occupation of doctors doesnt deal with death. They heal and preserve lives. A doctors job is to, first; diagnose the illness of their patient. Present a prognosis of the sickness. Offer them some suggestions of what to do. Perform medical check-ups and tests. Carry out operation/s if needed. Inform their patients of what medications to take. Doctors try to heal the sick. Not intentionally and directly causing deaths, as said in the Hippocratic Oath taken by doctors since 4 B.C. The Oath involves the commitment not to kill any patients, even at their own will. Implementing legal euthanasia would also be giving medics the opportunity
