InsomniaInsomniaCommunity or the lack there of… It is sad to say that even myself as a citizen, lack certain characteristics helping to making progress in my community. Living in the city of Aurora I really have no sense of community, or even my surroundings at times. In my own neighborhood no one really says hi, or introduces themselves, nor does it seem that they care too. To be honest I don’t even know their names. It seems harder than ever before to even strike up a conversation with someone let alone to come to an understanding of what is really going on in our own backyards.
Aurora, like many Communities has city council meetings that all citizens can attend. I can guarantee that most of Auroras citizens could care less to attend, or even find out where these meetings are held, and what issues are covered that might directly affect them. First off boring right? Not enough time, who cares, how is my attendance and concern going to affect city officials to improving my life? That probably doesn’t even cross most peoples minds, especially if they have there own car, a place to sleep and property taxes stay about the same. Well I’m here to say not being involved in your community, or at the very least not knowing what is going on in your own backyard is detrimental to our progress in becoming more unified.
Dealing with the Community and Public Affairs
I just came to this with a message. You may no surprise to find out that this whole ‘community’ in Aurora is a hive mind, which is one I wish I could change. For that, I can say I could change my way of life if you will. I want to change my way of life. Well, like anyone, though it is a short experience I don’t want to stop the process. I am currently thinking about a few options for me if I move the community on and off this platform. I will talk through some of the problems, if any, that I have with the project with the community and will be sure to provide a solution to them with an update from me in time for the next official announcement.
Aurora also has a community manager, who will run and monitor the entire project, and one of his primary responsibilities is to keep that up-to-date and working the project closely with the community. One of the things the community manager is looking for is for a dedicated volunteer, who can ensure we have an accurate picture of what is going on in the community. We do not have a dedicated community manager yet.
I did run errands, and would love more volunteers to help find people that can help out. For this reason, my current plan is to maintain a volunteer-level contact via the community manager if I am unable to deliver for that specific purpose, though I would strongly suggest you consider being that contact whenever you make a decision for us to try out different avenues of service to improve the community-like experiences for you or our users.
The first thing I need to know is that I am working so hard on this project, we are doing that for the same reason everyone else has: to help keep things going in a community that is actually improving the entire way of life in Aurora. Our work on the project is one of the most amazing projects of our entire life. We have built and continue to build amazing things over time, and we have reached a point where we are almost at the point where it should be possible to do just about any kind of service with the community, be that through volunteering, or through volunteer work.
I hope you look very closely into this plan, and hopefully make some specific recommendations to make it even easier for you. I also hope you come back and consider bringing us to you when we are back in town for another public meeting later this year. We are waiting patiently on your calls for more suggestions to make sure you are not doing something you will no longer need. Thank you.
