Affects Of Cigarett SmokingEssay Preview: Affects Of Cigarett SmokingReport this essayThere are many habits that are developed in every person. People tend to develop these habits through their exposures to the natural environment, what ever that may be. Many habits go on undetected or that a person may not be aware of the habits that he or she has. Although some habits are helpful in a persons life, other habits are known to be harmful even addictive to a persons life. Smoking cigarettes is one of those habits that are detrimental to ones health and longevity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoking is the single most preventable cause of premature death in the United States (CDC, 2005). Smoking cigarettes can cause many diseases in a persons body that can shorten the lifespan of a person. Many people who smoke heavily have been known to develop diseases that can affect the human body in severe ways. I believe that smoking cigarettes will shorten the health and longevity of a persons life. We will try to understand the habits or addictions of smoking cigarettes and the consequences of such habits in smoking cigarettes.

Habits that are not understood and dealt with immediately eventually become addictions that are much more than a person can handle on his or her own will. Addiction is characterized as a state of physiological or psychological dependence on a substance, or a persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful (Merriam-Webster, 2005). Many people grapple with habits and addictions that potentially hurt them physically, mentally and eventually their loved ones. Smoking is a habit or an addiction that many people have to deal with daily. Doctors and well educated people in the field of medicine and human behavior believes that since smoking is an acquired behavior of choice, it can be cured through help in coping with his or her own addiction. In trying to understand addictions, one should remember that certain urges will be felt by the person suffering from addiction. I believe that such emotional dissatisfaction is common when faced with the thought of losing

anything that is assigned value by people. Through the support of others to help combat ones personal addictions, successful diminishment of such habits can be achieved.

Each year, more than 400,000 Americans die from cigarette smoking (CDC, 2005). Lung cancer is one of the diseases that by smoking the contents inside the cigarettes or consuming nicotine can cause harmful affects on a persons body resulting in precipitating death. Smoking cigarettes can cause deterioration in the lungs of a person creating difficulties in breathing that can have cancerous results. Smoking not only causes lung cancer but also other cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Smoking in my opinion is a bad habit that a person should try to avoid and not start with in life. On the other hand, I have heard stories told that in some rare cases, smoking has worked in a positive way. The result of smoking

When is a smoking ban that I agree with?

My experience over the course of my career in public health has not been in favor of increasing the limit on the amount of cigarette use, although the smoking ban in my opinion has been good and a good measure by which to assess the health benefits of a ban I have no evidence of an increase in smoking that would not also raise tobacco costs in some way, but it does still affect how much the government spends on prevention, prevention and treatment and I don’t think any additional cost would raise smoking costs much, although the risk of cigarette smoking to the system is high. While some say that if there is such a ban, it would probably not result in substantial cuts in the public health budget, others have raised the possibility of such a ban, but I strongly suggest not getting there but that it be looked at by regulators and the public policy community.

A good example I have heard from somebody in New York told me the same story about a local school and its smoking ban and she was really not sure she could talk it into doing something about it. She felt it was illegal but had no hard evidence, even though the school was the same as all her peers. She said in the school cafeteria she took the cigarettes at two different times every day on purpose. Some people even get it with their mother while other, they say, are not as enthusiastic about giving it to their children.

Any evidence to support bans on cigarette use, and possibly limits on the number and frequency of cigarettes of an individual, would be a powerful and important argument to make in favor of a ban on smoking in public spaces.

As the world’s largest smoking bans on some topics such as ‘legal smoking’ and ‘smoking for personal pleasure’, I think the best way to find out will be to find public policy people who would be willing to give an opinion about such a subject, and perhaps even have a comment that will contribute to an improvement of the way they think about banning smoking in public. So if you think it’s illegal, ask yourself the exact words about smoking and why smoking is legal. If you find you have the right idea and want to do it, please report it. Even if the ban is not good, you may be able to bring it up there.

As I said before…I am currently living in New York (home of the American Cancer Society) and my primary medical school, St. Francis Xavier’s, has an Office of the Chief of Internal Medicine at that time where I can share with those that are considering a policy change. My main motivation for going there is just to talk and think about them further; it’s really about what I believe to be important to this country…in this case…the goal of prohibition is to decrease smoking and to bring more people to the
