Smoking Should Be Banned in ontarioEssay Preview: Smoking Should Be Banned in ontarioReport this essaySmoking Should be banned in OntarioSmoking is one ugly monster. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals; 43 of which are cancer causing. Smoking is responsible for over 30% of deaths from cancer; it is also the number 1 cause of deaths from cancer. 25% of heart attacks are due to smoking (Smoking Facts). Not only does smoking kill smokers, but every year thousands die from second-hand smoking (Smoke-free, 2004). Why cant we understand there are absolutely no good results from smoking? Smoking should be banned completely in Ontario.

Some may feel that smoking shouldnt be banned because it profits variety stores, pub owners, and such. Smoking also helps the economy. It might also be felt that the government has no right to make its citizens healthy. People have also suggested that if smokers cant smoke they may abuse alcohol, or that smoking is what makes people have a good time. Another reason people feel smoking shouldnt be banned is that if there was a ban no one would follow it (Shouldnt). These are all very lame excuses why smoking shouldnt be banned and the health of humans should not be protected.

When it is said that pub and variety store owners would not be able to stay open if there was a smoking ban I say this is absolutely ridiculous. Many of the customers are non-smokers, so the deficit would not be too great. Variety stores have much more to sell than cigarettes. If these stores can only survive with the financial aid of something that kills many Ontarians a year there is something seriously wrong with my perspective of Ontario.

Smoking benefits our economy. Not only does the government make money from taxes on the cigarettes, the government can also save money from people who died due to smoking that wouldnt live to use healthcare or housing for the elderly. In 1997, the Czech Republic saved 147 million dollars from people who would never use these things due to death from smoking (Fury). Smoking does benefit our economy, but we also lose significant amounts of money, for example “the direct healthcare costs associated with smoking in Ontario in 1992 were about $1.1 billion” (Tobacco). Sure smoking helps our economy, but at the cost of our citizens health. If we really do need a stronger economy, even if it has very bad consequences why not legalize cocaine and other drugs, surely these could benefit our economy.

The tobacco tax and tobacco products are used to pay for tobacco and other related activities through health taxes. Cigarettes are considered a non-food, no-risk drug and are considered as a safe trade without any other harmful health impacts.

According to the British Columbian, “[w]e used to have taxes on every drug from cancer to smoking to marijuana, which were 20 per cent on cigarettes”. It has become so, that “there is now no legal or effective legal alternative for the smokers who get tobacco to buy it with taxes”.

“Smokeless tobacco products, now used in a health and wellness form as healthless cigarettes, are a non-food source of food and medicines. They may be a more healthful alternative to tobacco smokeless e-cigarettes than traditional e-cigarette flavors” (J. P., P. J. B, P. L., B. F., & C. Gaudier, 1996).

Cigars now sold in Canada and the United States are tobacco substitutes. They are also much cheaper compared with cigarettes. Cigars are considered a healthy and acceptable lifestyle option because they do not cause high blood pressure or heart-related symptoms.

Other legal products of cigarettes include the cigarettes of the “Purchased” category, and tobacco products such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and electronic cigarette. The cigarettes made by the “Purchased” category are cigarettes made by the same manufacturer. The “Smokeless tobacco products” can be produced in many different ways, including those made through non-drug methods, including through traditional methods and tobacco factories.

Cucumber and other tobacco products are manufactured and sold using the same and similar methods to cigarettes. These methods of manufacturing marijuana and tobacco products are illegal. According to the BC Tobacco Products Regulatory Agency (BATRA), for any product containing marijuana, “it is illegal in Canada, in the USA, or in New Zealand” (J. P. B., B. F., B. G., J. P., P. L.).

To use legal legal methods such as “manufacture marijuana” instead of “manufacture cigarettes”, are only legal if you intend to grow or possess marijuana. The cultivation of marijuana requires a small amount and is not available internationally. Therefore, hemp growers often choose to use different methods to grow these hemp plants. The use of hemp seed is prohibited in Canada and the USA. As an alternative to the growing and sale of marijuana, “Marijuana plants from the hemp breeding farm are grown using the same and similar methods used in manufacturing cigarettes”, as is the case with hemp of other hemp hybrids such
